Outside Mirrors, any decent aftermarket ones out there
Geeze, the crap that's out there.

As you guys know, the stock mirrors start deeper from the inside oart, and taper in as they also towards the outside end.
Plus, originals were heavier, made of better metal, and held their settings.
Do you know of any aftermarket ones that don't suck?
Thanks

I am running LMC ones, normal glass both sides as I was going to pull a trailer and the right side convex is not good for trailer towing.
They have been on the truck 5+ years now but the truck dose not stay outside when home but is driven a lot even in the rain like we had last Sunday and got the truck dirty
Now I will say the ball / socket is pretty loose so will not hold but you cant go to tight or when you need to adjust the ball will snap off the screw part base
What I have done is adjust them where they need to be and then using a normal & 90* screw drivers, only a 90* can get to some of the screws, and tighten them.
If it is not right depending how tight you went on the screws you may want to loosen them, adjust and tighten back up.
The right one of mine moves and I need to go a little tighter so it will stay put as I do pull a trailer and need that mirror.

I've owned a Bull Nose, Brick Nose and OBS trucks. I'm pretty sure that these mirrors were used on all three generations. So, like @Franklin2 said, a junkyard is your best best. Check Car-Part.com. Maybe you can find a nice set from elsewhere and have them shipped.

Ford did offer some larger trailer mirrors. I've seen them in the old brochures. Grab em!

@Starliner1955 My favorite junkyard (Southwest Auto Salvage in Lockport, IL) has a set on an '87 F-150 (white - stock # 190306). I may be taking a run down there before Xmas. Are you in a hurry? What's your budget?
Here's the mirror criteria (for the secondary search): Manual, 2 mounting points (swing lock, 4 bolts), chrome (5x8"), LH

You may need to make an extension to get the head up above the door bracket.
If you look at the first picture and the one you ordered the round part is longer in the first picture and I think when you turn the mirror in to where you can use it the head will hit the door bracket.
I want to say early Chevy used a mirror like you are looking at but had the longer round part?
Now if you do need a longer round part I would get some conduit cut to what you need and weld the bolt in 1 end that will fit the mirror and get a nut & bolt and weld the nut in the other end.
You then screw the extension onto the mirror and then bolt the assy. to the bracket on the door.
You also know I think Ford had brackets where you unbolt the mirror head and bolted on a extension and the mirror to it.
I believe they would be in a little closer to the door and then turn them out when needed.
Kind of what MAX? has on his.
You can also find a different type on Ebay that slide in & out on a bracket. I think when in they are out just a little bit than if mirror was bolted to the door bracket.
I have a set of this type but have not had the need to mount them as the trailer I pull dose not block what I can see behind me for the most part the short distance I tow it.

I just started another thread looking for mirrors like this. Where did you find them and what are they called. I would like them for my 82 F250 plow truck. Backing up in the snow and in the dark on a curvy driveway with drop offs using the smaller mirrors is a bit dicey.
Please keep us posted if they work.
Thanks
