1952 f1 ford ranger

1952 ford ranger. I have owned this truck for 7 years, getting started on it now. Marmon Herrington 4 wd, v8 4 speed originally had 2 back seats. I have title from 1963, M H badges, Ford Badges, serial numbers match those on frame. This truck was located in western montana and was lived in by a gentleman on a mining claim. His hand written notes were located in the glove box, and the bed frame bolted to the inside of the vehicle. Cooking utensils hung from hooks in the wood window frames, and roller shades over the back windows. A wood stove provided heat, and the pipe was cut through the roof. This old girl is rough , but all there. Thank you Stu for posting pictures. I appreciate everyones input , and will gladly share any info I can to help someone else with a project. I have access to 48 to 52 trucks for parts or projects. Mark Buck

Okay, I’ll start posting pics. Do you know, Mark, what the reason for the sawzall surgery was? Winch? Stu

Welcome Mark, glad you have joined the group! Congratulations on your Ranger, it seems to be in pretty decent shape considering it's history. I'm looking forward to following your progress and seeing many more pictures of that beautiful truck! Good luck and have fun!!

Montana seems to have been a common home to M-Hs. I was told mine too came from there and was used by a mining supervisor. And of course Dave found Brutus derelict out on the high plains of a MT ranch. And this morning Mark texted me telling me the F-4 wrecker we recently discussed on the other thread belonged to his neighbor. Stu

Welcome to FTE.
Wow, neat truck. I mean camper! Thats amazing that he lived in it. I could see camping out in it for a week or two but beyond that???

What are the round and squared things under the dash? I cant dechiper what those are? Maybe a heater or ?

I think all of the Marmon Herringtons ive seen or heard of all have had V8's. In them. Stu, do you know of any with a sixer in them?

Edit. Maybe the square thing is the radio hanging down? I see that the speaker and speaker grill are not installed.

All the Rangers were V8s to my understanding. The M-H pickups and straight panel trucks could be either six or eight. Stu

This truck is a v8, appears to be original, complete with fan shroud, and 6 blade fan, may or may not be from ford or M H, and heavy duty radiator.

That six blade fan was an optional cooling feature.

I’m gonna go back to the sawzall surgery and post your picture of the engine and tranny, and a close up of the cut front cross member. Clearly the PTO sent the drive shaft forward through the cut frame. Do you know what was mounted up front? Probably a winch? There is a small hole cut out that probably would have been for the PTO cable. This picture also shows the truck’s original Meadow Green color. Stu

Progress made ! body off chassis. Sand blasting misc parts. working on frame related items. Can anyone help with the code and a source for the green engine paint? Also looking for the code for the white grille paint? I am leaning towards 12 volt electrical, and looking for advice on that ,as well as 12 v or vacuum wipers?

Mark - the factory matching light green is sold by Bill Hirsch. Link below and a pic of my aerosol can with info and codes. Other guys will maybe add comments that Detroit Diesel green is a close match as is a Krylon color. I think I remember the Krylon code but am not 100% sure I’m remembering right so will not post it. No code was given in 1952 for the cream color, but later years used Sungate Ivory which is I think now the accepted standard. One of the others probably knows the code, or I can look it up later and text you. Twelve volt is your business, I’d stay 6 volt.

We’ve had discussions here before where I don’t recall hearing of any of the M-Hs having electric wipers. I know all I’ve had were vacuum, and am pretty sure that’s been the case with the others. Maybe Chuck would have insights.

Ill also post a couple of the progress pics you’ve sent me. Stu

Nice to see another Ranger being saved. The truck has a pretty interesting history. That's pretty cool

I look forward to following along as you make progress

radiator questions

My radiator is damaged beyond rebuild. I am looking for advice on what brand to purchase. 3 core or 4 core? I was considering copper . I will be running the original flathead v8 , 6 blade fan with a shroud. Any thoughts appreciated thanks.

The stock radiator from your F-6 forklift would work. Stu
