Check to see if the fueses are blown. There should be fuses under the hood for the left and right brake lights. If the highmount light works normally then the brake switch is fine.

I think there are 2 fuse blocks under the hood, there should be a smaller one more towards the fire wall that has the trailer fuses in it. My truck is not here so I cant look. If you have the owners manual check there, it should tell you description/ fuse locations.

The only other thing I can think of is it has the wrong bulbs, or the connectors are corroded, but oit doesnt sound like it cause the parking lamps work, and the directionals work.

brake lights

I found the problem. It has to do with the multi function swith in the steering colum. I pressed the hazerd switch a few times and the brake lights went back to working. I thank it has to do with the amount of dirt and dust that gets down in there.HEY THANKS FOR ALL OF THE HELP AND SUGESTIONS
