water pump life

I've got a 99 f250 with 130k miles on it and I was wondering how long the water pumps seem to last on these. Its not leaking or anything. Should I replace just to replace it . I don't have money to burn so should I wait till it starts leaking ?

Mine has 330,000 miles on it. I'm not going to replace it till it starts to leak.

(probably tomorrow now that I've opened my mouth).

If it's not leaking I wouldn't worry about it. As long as you maintain the fluid you can see between 150 and 300K before it goes out. You could buy one and put it on the shelf but unless there is a reason to replace it then it is best to just leave it be.
If you want to help the water pump out and the rest of your engine by getting the junk out of the coolant then get a water coolant filtration kit and install that. It doesn't go inline with anything. You plug one hose into a unused port on the pump and the other into the water reservoir and it slowly filters junk out of the water. Soon I'll be changing mine and cutting it open. When I do I'll be posting my results just as those before me have.

Mine just went out at 208,000 miles. If I were you I would just wait until it goes out.

I think what shortens the life of most water pumps is the high rpm.. but in our trucks the rpms don't go much over 2300 normally ... unlike the gassers.

My factory WP went out at about 210K miles. My Airtex replacement went out about 90K later. luckily Airtex WP's are lifetime warranty, so I got a free one and replaced it in the driveway. Neither of my waterpumps failed, but instead, started weeping from the weep hole, and I knew it was time to replace.
