If I understand what's going on hear properly, that being how the "over travel spring" hooks to the "adjusting lever" (names taken from the second diagram posted above). If I remember correctly the spring hooks to the adjusting lever in such away that you can see the broad side of the rectangular piece, as opposed to how you've got it in your picture with the edge facing outward.

Hopefully swooshcmk can get a pic of his posted... that should clear things up nicely but from what I recall (and from looking at the diagrams above) the broadside of the rectangular piece should face outward...

I'll take pics of mine in a bit, but just running out the door as soon as I type this. The spring hooks onto the adjuster, with the rectangular piece i on the outside. (The rectangle doesn't hook onto it at all, just the hook of the spring.)

What I do need to know, and can't seem to find, is what the proper way is to tighten the wheel bearing nut on these rear axles.... do they get torqued to a certain spec, or what? Never had the proper socket before, so they always got a bit of a guess job with a hammer and chisel.

ahh i think i got it figured out now.
yeah! thats what i just tried greywynd.now i see how its spring works.
i think this setup makes everything work correctly.i had the blue spring wrong a bit too.
here guys, check this out now and see if this is right:

the whole springs came undone on this side and pooched my new e-brake cable.i'll have to grab another one to fix that.
but i think this setup for the adjuster is right on the money now.am i good to go now?

ok by the sounds of both of these two last replies when i was out trying to get it right,i think its safe to safe to say i got it.it all adds up to what your both saying and how it seems to work logically to me too.
im gunna toss the wheel on and get the other side done before dark hopefully.
if anyone says i still dont have it,i;ll fix it latter with a drop light if i need to.
thanks guys!!!!

Looks good to me! Now I don't have to take a picture of mine lol Blue return spring looks good too, I didn't think it looked to have the tension on it the right way.

well so much for getting to the other side.apparently when everything come undone in there, the shoes/hardware bent the backing plate.wow that sucker is thick.took me a while with the maul smacking it,and long bar prying it back into shape so the rotor went on flush all the way around.i'll just have to do the other side tomorrow.that side is all solid,im just changing the whole works on both sides to new all at once.

cool.thats nice to hear a positive confirmation reply after that sucky job lol (i always hate doing rear brakes shoes) thanks guys! really appreciate it.

Where's the end of your parking brake cable?

Rest of it, at least, what we can see, looks good. I was trying to figure out why yours looked different than mine (comparing the pictures I grabbed before dark earlier) and realized that between your shiny new brake hardware, and the hub still being on, that it made the picture look a lot different.

Your adjuster looks right in the bottom picture.

Be aware when you work on rear brakes the adjuster should set about level.

If it rides down on the adjuster wheel to far it will keep the rear brakes adjusted so tight the truck will not roll downhill.

In my case these bearings were all replaced 2-3 years ago, unfortunately the drivers side seal had started to weep a little, so it is getting a new seal. I couldn't find any of the 2 piece seals though, so I'll go another round with the old one piece style. I also noticed my breather for the axle was plugged, so I'll clear that and put a fresh hose on it, I hope that was some of the cause of the seal issue.

Anyone that can confirm or fill me in on how to tighten those rear nuts on the hubs? I know I've read it on here before, but danged i f I can hit the right search to find it again.

Hi, there is a spring between the flat washer and parking brake lever on mine and I think it's broke because I did my brakes last night and it kinda popped out and now my e-brake won't work. Is there a part number for it? I don't even see it in the diagram. Thanks
