Triton V10 on my 99 F250 dieing and idle issues sometimes not all the time.

I have a 99 f250 4x4 v10. started out one day it died as I was slowing down to a turn on my street. I stopped and started right back up no problem. Didnt do it for like another 2 weeks down the road. That time it did it like 3 times that day. Once was going like 55mph at 1800-2000 rpm. Today though I was at stop light and as I started to accelerate it just started cutting out with very little to no acceleration what so ever. As soon as u let off the gas it would idle out. This carried on for a few minutes until i decided to pull over and shut it off. Started up and took off like nothing happened. There is service light on for Oxygen sensor bank 2 sensor 1. And also on diagnostic check it showed the front oxygen sensors are running lean. Could the O2 sensors cause this or be the TPS. I changed the fuel filter yesterday. There is no catylic convertor. Any suggestions. Its not reading any other codes on code reader. Thanks for any help. The truck does not smoke or use oil and only has 117k. I guess I will change the front two O2 sensors and see what happens.

Sounds like you have a vacuum leak or dirty MAF.

There is an elbow in the PCV plumbing where it plugs into the throttle body that likes to crack.

While you're under the hood, clean the MAF.

I wouldn't go changing the O2 sensors until everything else is checked.

Couldn't hurt to check the fuel pressure at the injector rail with the engine under heavy load. Should be in the 30 to 40 psi range.

It could be the fuel pump going out.

wouldnt hurt to get some injector cleaner and throw it in with some gas if it has been bogging down or doing things that show a loss of power

ok so far I have taken air cleaner off and cleaned the MAF sensor. Realized my air filter was filthy so I bought a recharger kit for it. (K&N Filter) I have replaced the fuel filter also. And yes its still doing it. Its getting worse, Its got to a point I dont want to drive it. Im taking to my brothers shop and going to have him check the battery, alternator, and fuel pump I guess. maybe change all of it anyways. Ill try some injector cleaner 2morrow. Any more ideas from anyone would help. Today I got off work this morning got in the truck turned the key and it acted like it didnt want to start at first .. made some clicking noise on dash then fired up.. died 2 seconds later. Died at stop light. Loss of power a couple times on parkway. I want this fixed !!!

Hi, I know this is an old discussion, but did ya'll ever figure out what it was. My truck has been doing the exact same thing and I need to have an idea of what the problem is when I take it to my mechanic. It's the same make, model, year etc only with high miles (280,000+) I cant afford a new truck so I'll like to see this one roll over to 300,000. Any help would be appreciated.

I did get it fixed. We replaced the Idle air intake valve and did a tune up, plugs, filters etc, even though it didn't code anything. It runs like a whole new machine.

2002 F250 V10 idle problem - similar

Okay this is what my truck is doing. Hard to start in the morning...or later in the day. Once it's running, will not idle. When pull up to stop sign/light, it will die. Have to double foot it to keep it going. If I drive it 10 or so miles on the highway, it seems to do better.

It doesn't do this all the time. It's off and on over the last year or so. Ford couldn't find the problem the last time so I hesitate to take it to them again unless I have some suggestions.

Idle air control

It has been mentioned in various sites to carry a spare Idle Air control valve. They are relatively cheap from RockAuto.com. In fact I bought nearly every common part that goes out for only $257. Lots cheaper than towing & downtime (if you use truck for work).

I have the same symptoms on my 06 F250 v10. But someone noted it does not have an IAC. Is that correct? Any ideas on what it might be? Thank you. Like others have mentioned it's gotten to the point where I avoid driving because if I let of the gas in traffic it might die.

Your truck has an idle air control valve. It sounds like it is bad from your description.
