Replacing Oil Dipstick Tube

My original oil dipstick tube is bent and it crimps my dipstick on my 1985 F150, 302 engine. Luckily, I found an OEM replacement dipstick and tube at the junkyard.

My question is, do I have to drain my oil pan before I remove the dipstick tube? If I leave the oil in (recent oil change) will oil come pouring out of the hole when I take out the oil dipstick tube?

The base of the tube should be above the oil level, should be no need to drain it.

My dipstick tube came clear out of the block on my '81 302...I don't think it goes into the pan itself, but rather into the block near the pan.

If it's not too much to ask, could you either take some pictures or explain how you replaced yours when you're finished? I'm looking at replacing mine as well, possibly with an EFI version if it'll fit.
