Popped spark plug maybe?

A few weeks ago I popped a plug out of my 99 F-250, and I fixed it with a time sert not a problem. On my way to work today and I got the same sound again as when It happened the first time. However upon a quick inspection I did see any of the coils popped off or any spark plugs missing. So did it do the same thing, or is something else wrong. Will it break the coil off when this happens every time or not. The sad thing is I have only had the truck for a month.

If you catch it quickly (turn engine off fast and coast to a stop) it won't damage the coil. If it takes a while to decide there's something wrong, the coil is toast.

Sometimes they launch violently (like when at full throttle), sometimes not so much. So it may or may not destroy the coil.

Sounds like your truck was worked on by somebody too "experienced" to bother using a torque wrench. That sucks. If this turns out to be another stripped plug, I would seriously consider doing all the plug holes and be done with it. It really isn't that difficult to pull the heads on these trucks. Once you have the heads off, it is so much easier to do the inserts, and you know the cylinders won't have any debris.

Replace the exhaust studs while you're at it, and you'll be set for years of trouble (and anxiety) free driving.

I wonder how common the popped plugs were for those early engines. My 99 popped two in two years. 35,000 and 55,000 miles. Ended up trading on 03 when warranty expired. Have not heard of any of the newer ones doing it (2002 and up). Know a guy with 01 which did.

We all do. Unfortunately, it is impossible to know. Those who experienced it are very vocal. The (vast) majority who haven't are silent.
