06 v10 Truck Dieing
I have a 06 f250 6.8 v-10. I parked my truck for a week to go to training I come back It was dead from leaving my fire dept radio on so I jump it and take off. I got out of my truck and was listening to it and it was ideling weird. I got back in a took off. I drove it approximately 20miles and I shut it off about 2 hrs i got back in to leave started it up put it in reverse tapped the gas and it died. I started it and it died I had to start if with my foot on the gas. I took of drove it down the road stopped at the stop sign and it had a real low idle i took off headed down the road and it stayed in 2nd gear foreever not normal for my truck and then it finaly shifted. I went approximately 10miles stopped at another intersection and it died i started it and it died once again i had to start it givning it gas and then my engine light came on. I made it to town fueled it up and drove it home. the next day I start it and it was fine I drove it around drove fine thought nothing was wrong i dropped some fuel injector in it. I took of to go to the store i come back out start it up tapped the gas and it died i started it and it died once again started it giving it gas. I got it home put it in park and it was idealing really low I tapped the gas and it died. I started it back up put the pedal to the floor and it was a slow rev up. It was not at full power i did that a few times and the same everytime. Does anyone know what this could be. All i have done is let it sit for a week.

further into looking into this problem the truck runs fine down the road i tested that but when i got down the road to turn around i stop put it in reverse hit the gas and it died. It ran great back down the road i make it home stop put it in reverse again tapped the gas and it died. When i rev it up and watch the tach com back down it looks and acts like it drops so far down that it can bring itself back up to normal ideal and it dies.

It's probably your IAC (Idle Air control) selonoid. this controls the air that is let in when the throttle plate is closed (foot off gas) if this is not functioning correctlly then you will have to have your foot on the gas to get it to start right? Just a thought, let us know!!
He probably needs a new throttle body assembly or TPS and Actuator motor for the throttle body assembly.

Sorry guys havent had time to give a update on my prob. At work one night I tour the intake tube off so I can have alot better look at all the wires and stuff in the back to see if any rodents chewed something up well not seeing anything like that I took the throttle body off and the back side of it was dirty with oil grease stuff like that so I cleaned it up real good put it all back together and My idal was back and it would rev up again. So i drove home never died on me when I stopped or out it in reverse. I still took it into a guy I know to have it put on the comp to find out why my engine light was on. He told me it read the Idealer control is what it was saying but it was working so he cleared the code and told me to bring it back imidetly if it came back on again. Well It hasnt come back on yet and my truck is running great still. Any Ideas guys.
What is that decarboning the motor. Can someone tell what that is.

when disconnecting the battery or having it go dead your computer has to start over with new baselines. if the maf sensor is at all dirty (most will be), the new baseline can cause intermittent engine shutdown when approaching idle. the computer will relearn, but if the shutting down continues to be a problem, clean the maf (properly). if still a problem, there is an upgrade to the software that requires a reflash by the stealership.

I had the exact same problem on my 2006 e250 van (5.4l) Took the throttle body out...and cleaned her up real good, and everything has been fine since.
The dealership/repair manuals might say NOT to clean it, but trust me you can! I had so much crap on mine I couldn't believe it lasted as long as it did (220k)
Next step is to clean the IAC and Throttle bodies on my other trucks as a pre-emptive measure

I had simular problem here and it was a throttle body problem. I was dirty around the base where it mounts to the manifold, suspected that the gasket might be leaking. ( pulling air in) Not sure how I was going to check this so thought i use WD 40 and clean it up first. Truck was still runnig at the time. When I sprayed it the idle smoothed out for a few second as it sucked the fluid in and sealed the leak. It became rough again after all the fluid was pulled in.replaced gasket and fixed the problem.

Don't have the same issue but no one can give me an answer and saw ned37 mentioned having the computer reflashed and am wondering if anyone has had this done on their v10 and if it made a difference in performance. I have a 2000 f350 v10 that over the last year seems like its losing power only when pulling a load runs fine empty. Went from pulling a 8,000 pound camper fine to struggling to pull a 4500 pound camper. Have done plugs, coils,o2 and tps sensors and nothing. Local shop said i should try a reflash.
