What Have YOU Done To Your Truck Today?
wood working
We like to eat at a couple different drive ins from time to time. One dates to 1952 and has the best fresh cut onion rings and cole slaw ever. I had made a tray that sat on the dash for setting our food on, but it just wasn't working so well as we were reaching up and over to it, so today I made a new 12"x16" one to place on the front of the seat securely, so I can look down as I eat onion rings and etc. It's assembled, fits nice, is secured between my fold down arm rest and my drink holder, and is flat enough to store behind my head rest or under a seat. I'm waiting on some putty to dry before final sanding, stain, and polyurethane.
How it was with the older seat covers, looks like they were faded, but I think is a camera trick as they both matched the arm rests from that 1986 Mercury. Notice how that utilitarian looking center console is out past the seat fronts. That console extends back to as far back as the seats go, it fills the 4" wide space between. By accident, I laid a clip board laying across the seats and noticed how a flat mini table might be handy to have there for setting our meal on up at Wright's ... so I made one. Under the front it has a round plug of wood that is a good fit inside the front most cup holder, and it stores out of the way behind either head rest. In place, with rear under the front of the arm rests and that round plug in the cup holder, it does not move.
I have a dash top table I made too, both have lips around them but this might be better as just so easy to grab another onion ring and drag it past the sauce..

Finally found a 1977 8274 a while back. Hard to find a 70's Warn 8274 in rebuildable shape around here.
It was really in rough shape...Tore it down cleaned out all gunk, replaced a couple bearings, fabed a few pieces, and now have it installed.
Looked for a 8274 remote for Very, Very long time and it's like looking for hens teeth.
Happened to look in one of my old winch bins amd found one of the orig. remoteds from one of the the 77, or 78 8274's I had.
So anyone rebuilding an 8274 the parts are some stupid $$$$$'s.
As with the shackel mounts, that 1/4 winch winch plate goes thru the bumper and welded on the back side also.....

Well, intent was to just move around in my basement shop, but then I noticed that 1970s Grant steering wheel adapter kit that I scored off Ebay this week. Brand new kit, is correct #3285 kit. I did not need the kit truthfully, but it had both a chrome horn cap AND a chrome "skirt" that covers the adapter and blends to the steering column. So .... I disconnected my battery, and removed my steering wheel from the adapter in the truck. I used those 1/4-28 line up pins I made, got it all done, then found the skirt was a hair deeper and just barely rubbed the turn signal housing, just barely. I made a thin sheet metal plate with matching holes and redid it, placing the thin plate under the chrome skirt. It is maybe 1/32" thick, but it did the trick. Those pins helped greatly too, aligning the various parts, adapter / new plate /skirt / steering wheel / 2 horn contact plates / shouldered bolts. Super easy. I'll just keep the unused adapter as a spare .... just in case the one on it ever loosens up (I had one loosen up a few years ago, I thought it cracked but not so sure after some closer looking).
Went to reconnect the battery negative, lead terminal end let go. I have a few spares, but chose a brass cable clamp end this time. I like it.

Here you go.. 8x1/4. mounts to frame with 1/2 in. plate and Gr.8 bolts thru bumper to pulling eye. With another piece of 1/2 in welded and ground down for the shackel mount. So, when pulling on the shackel, you are actually pulling on the frame.
Hope this makes sense....
