New engine info....6.2, Ecoboost....

Good article on pickuptrucks.com with more details on upcoming engines for the F-150. Ecoboost sounds promising.

mmmm....400+ horsepower.

The ecoboost sounds sweet but I wonder if people will actually buy them. I mean if your sitting there pricing out an F150 or even looking at them on the lot and there is 3 all lined up. One with the ecoboost, one with the 5.0L(maybe) and one with the 6.2L. I'm guessing the ecoboost probably wont sell as well. At least until gas prices start going back up.

6.2L in a F150 FTW.

That motor should help base Super Duty sales as well.

so is there another 6-speed coming out to handle the power of these new motors, or are they using the same one that debuted in the 09 F150?

John, you sir are an FTE magician!

For dis going to have some really good years ahead assuming of course that reliability and cost remain Ford's top priority. I believe it will.

I can't wait to get a hold of a 6.2L SD or a 5.0L F-150 and put the hammer down.

Nothing new there. Just a summary of what we already knew.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I guess it's a little exciting considering...

I am really curious to see how the Ecoboost does.

John, I love it when you dig up this info. Please continue to do so, no matter how mundane it may seem to some folks it's always fresh and exciting for me.

I don't always have the time to sit in front of the screen and explore so, if someone is willing to do it for me.......

Glad to do it Tim. I guess I'm still like a kid at heart because anything Ford truck related gets me hopped up. And with my schedule, it allows me some down time to dig around a little.

I can't wait to see how these new engines do in real world testing by actual owners and the sites / magazines that test them on a regular basis. Speculation is fine but seat of the pants is what I'm anxious to see.

I'll definately wait and see what problems they have with any of these new engines before buying. If memory serves me correctly, the 6.0L was a disappointment from a reliability stand point, and the 2-valve 5.4L engines sipped gas like a 460, not to mention they spit out spark plugs. And then we have the well documented plugs breaking in the head upon removal in the 3-valve engines. I'll wait and see what the genius engineers give us before purchasing.

You could drill a 1" hole in the fuel tank and that 5.4L would still use less fuel than a 460!

I have both a 460 in a '79 f150 and a 5.4l and I can say the 460 is a lot worse on fuel!!!

Greg, I would say that with the few issues that you just mentioned, I'm confident that Ford will not want a repeat performance and has done all it can to minimize or eliminate these issues from re-occurring.
