Let me start by saying this the shift lever on the steering colum seems very loose. I went through the gears with the shift lever and checked the cable where it's hooked to the transmission it is changing gears but now I lost reverse when I am going back to park I hear what sounds like a spinning and grinding sound.What might that be?

 

Thanks for the help, you were right the transmission was bad. I got a 1998 transmission from a junkyard seems to be working fine all except the 4wheel drive it sounds like it is engaging but it's not working.I just had lower and upper ball joints done on it but there is a noise sounds like it's coming from the left wheel a clunking sound can it possibly be the cause? what are your thoughts? Also the other day the gear shift on the column busted off in my hand the selector tube busted in half do you have to pull the the steering column to replace it? I know how to get the steering wheel off but were are the bolts located to pull column any help would be greatly appreciated.

 

I have a 1998 ford ranger 4.0 4x4 I put a 1999 5r55e automatic transmission in it everything works fine but I have no overdrive and the od light is blinking someone said the computer may need to be replaced to match the new trans or updated does anyone have any thoght of where I go from here?

 

I had the same problem. The shifter lever on the tranny is not zeroed in. It is causing Digital Transmission Range sensor error that shuts down OD.

trying to put 1999 5r55e 4x4 into 1997 ranger 5r55e 4x4 ranger lost reverse in my 1997 did valve body and reverse servo seals didn't help looking to swap trans Will these swap or lots of issues? Thanks in advance
