I would say take a piece of masking tape and write something unique on it, then put it in place. If they notice the piece of tape has torn they will try to replace it with a new piece. But they would have to match your handwriting. Start simple before you go all out.

Put a piece of straw, a small strip of paper, or a match in the corner of the door at the top near the hinge side. Not too big. If someone opens the door it will fall out and you will know someone opened the door. No one is going to check the perimeter of the door.

Are there any tricks that I can do without spending so much money? Any sort of systems (camera or alarm) that are recommended for a small area?

All info is appreciated.
So it has been just about 10 days has any of these tricks worked or have you caught someone?

If you know what days they may be getting in, you could try putting a light film of clear vaseline on the exterior door ****. That may be enough of a deterrent for them to realize someone knows they are entering without your knowledge. You could also put a gum wrapper between the door and door frame seal when you leave. If you put it up in an inconspicous spot you could see if it is still in place when you get home. If you suspect they are stealing and you get the camera mentioned previously then take it one step further; get some cheap gold out of a kiddy gumball machine and place it in an unsealed Cash For Gold shipping envelope. Leave it out on yer counter to see if it dissappears while your gone.

You should hire someone who looks like you, and send them to where you work. Then you can stay home and hide in the closet with a baseball bat. And when you hear someone sneaking in... wham!!!
