FPR disassembled and this is what I found
I've been having problems with my truck as I have posted in a couple of other posts. I think I found my problem today. I took off the FPR and disassembled it and this is what I found.
This is the reglator disassembled
This is the port where you would typically do the FPR mod. Notice the black pieces of what seems to be some kind of plastic material.
This is looking down into the strainer that is in the bowl on the bottom of the regulator.
It was hard to photo all the debris in the last photo so I held the strainer up to the light and here is that photo. Notice that the part furtherest away from my hand you can't see any light through it. That is how full of crap it is.
This photo is looking up into the bottom where the strainer goes on and the bowl screws on over the strainer.
This truck only has 156000 miles on it and the fuel filter looked like crap. I guess the person that I bought it from just wasn't as honest about the maintenance as I thought.
I will have this all cleaned up and back on the truck later today and I will report back on how things are going.
Thanks for all the help and support that I have gotten from everyone here on my issues.

UPDATE.....Truck prrrrsssss like a kitten now. Idles smooth, accels smooth, and no surging, no dieing when coming back down to idle as in slowing to make a turn etc. The plunger in the port where you do the FPR mod was stuck in there pretty good, so I guess the fuel wasn't really getting regulated. I've had this thing for a couple of months now and I thought it ran well when I got it, now I really think it runs well. It's dang smooth on the throttle now. Thanks for all the help.

guys with '96 and '97 trucks. notice where that long black piece is on his FPR??? that unscrews and then theres that little screen filter in there. if you pull your FPR off in that same spot as his last picture its got a snap ring and you pull that "plug?" outta there and there is a little filter in there too. it looks like steel wool just stuft down there. don't know how often they get dirty though. took the one on my dad's '97 apart with 147k miles and that piece wasn't dirty, but the FPR screen was filthy!!!

I checked with ford and they didn't carry anything at all. You can purchase the whole regulator or just the oring that goes between the regulator and the filter housing, the screen that goes in the same place. No aftermarket store like advance, autozone, or oreilys have anything at all. I was able to re-use all as they were in good shape, but looking at the debris inside it has to be from the insides of fuel lines comeing apart like was stated by 79f-250 above.
But, the truck is running sweeter than it has since I got it.
