Question Pyrometer gauge question!

Hey fellas,
Thought I would pop in here with another question as I install my turbo. As of now, I have no pyrometer or boost gauge. Seeing as they are probably the most vital gauges I need...I have been doing some shopping for a set.

So far I have seen around $200+ for just the boost, pyrometer and sending unit from various places (Banks, Hypermax, ATS). But, while I was browsing ebay I came across a set of three for $150+ shipping. Only a slight problem...I have no experience with the company that manufactures them. Here is a link:

(Yes, I know its listed for a powerstroke, but I plan to adapt it for my turbo kit...if possible...)

POWERSTROKE DIESEL GAUGES BOOST TRANS OIL TEMP EGT:eBay Motors (item 370274187069 end time Dec-11-09 11:29:13 PST)

Anyone ever heard of these? Give me your thoughts, thanks.

-Dave

Never heard of those gauges, but just remember you get what you pay for. I got a set of those glowshift gauges, and I wish I would have spent a little more and got some better ones.

they look like a glowshift to me with a different name. I would buy a glowshift apillar mount and get gauges somewhere else. I like autometer cobalts. Thats what my trans temp is. My boost is a sunpro. Both are great

The problem with stroke gauges is the boost gauge is upto 30psi. You'll never see near that with your IDI. Banks goes to 15psi which is a far more practical scale.

Search for Isspro gauges.

It has been years since I bought mine, slightly under 200 dollars.

Isspro has been making diesel gauges and pyrometers forever.

If I remember right mine came from USDiesel.com if they are still around.

Thanks for all the replies guys, did a search for more reputable gauges like the ISSPRO Dave mentioned and Autometer gauges that I am familiar with. Far better quality!

As I found out through a bit more research...Mookeeh gauges have mediocre quality and are simply too far on the cheap side. What you indeed pay for is what you get... Although I should have known better. A dead giveaway was the absence of what year and size engine those powerstroke gauges are made for...One size does NOT fit all.

USDiesel is still around it seems...time to do some more shopping...

(Oh and the headlight wiring harness in my other thread arrived and is going in the truck tomorrow while I have the electrical pulled apart!)

The last pyro I bought was new in the box off of ebay, it was for my kw (isspro but with kw face on it) for 6o bucks. KW wanted 360 for it this was guage only I think the new probe cost me 58 dollars at the dealer. check out commercial truck parts on ebay, you may find an isspro for less than you will pay for a cheap one.

The installation is going a bit slow due to the weather. No heated shop with temps in the 15-20*F range. Managed to get the headlight harness installed today. MUCH BRIGHTER! I am thoroughly impressed with the way the lights turned out. The range of my high beams almost doubled!

Figures, the more I try and get ahead with the turbo install, the more little things I come across that need fixing. Now that I have the lights fixed, I have discovered a cold start issue. Starting another thread about that...

As far as gauges, I came across a Autometer Sport Comp 2 pyrometer gauge online. Gonna see if I can snag it.

Lucky guy lol. I would have checked all the glow plugs while I was in there today if the temps weren't dropping when I finished the lights. One day at a time I guess...

Heh, I'm really looking forward to driving this beast when it is done! Just have to hunt down all the little stuff to give it a nice finish...
