If your dpf was cracked?

Count me in the sooty group as well. My F250 FX4 Lariat regens about every 600 miles on the highway, maybe every 300 with in town driving. I have black pipes and I can see the soot if I spray them with a hose. Let's add this question to the forum. Many of you have this same pattern - do you ALSO have the white smoke and hesitation under heavy acceleration in wet weather???
what I thought the problem was do to reading about issue's online
and they called me later that day and said I was right. Hasn't done it again since the cac was replaced. no smoke at all
As far as the sooty pipes and possible dpf issue or sensor goes, If we are warranted to 100,000 miles I
may be in no rush to run out and get this looked at. Not even sure if it's really even a problem.
What kills me is some do some don't !!

Finally took mine in today to the local dealership where I bought it. Mechanic came out to talk to me and said he could find no codes or any problems. He did install the latest software. I asked him about the tsb and he got a bit indignant and said that was not the problem. He then said if it occurred again he would replace the egr. He said every truck he sees has sooty pipes. He definitely did not like the fact that I had been researching this online. However, he did give me his personal cell phone# and said to call him immediately if it happens again. I just hope I don't get run over by an 18-wheeler while trying to accelerate and the truck stumbles....

I am intrested in renewing this thread. I am new to the 6.4 and fall in this catagory. My dealer says all is ok and reflashed my computer. I get soot on heavy acceleration, regan every 7-800 and getting 14.3 MPG hand calculated. My worry is will this issue cause damage further up into the engine? turbos? sensors? or anything else.......

Here's my take on it, FWIW. A slightly cracked DPF can be a blessing in some regards...your mpgs will be better than otherwise due to them being fewer and further apart. The DPF is still functioning but it'll load up more since the "small leak" makes it look less than full and therefore behave like a normal DPF. Regen starts based on DPF pressure readings and/or a default maximum mileage which sounds like 600-700miles
If I'm not mistaken, there is a software monitor that checks for leaks (like a deleted DPF) and if there's some limit that is surpassed, a code is set.
I know Ford won't do anything unless there's a code. The argument you can make is the DPF is supposed to catch >95% of all the soot meaning no visible soot.

I have a 2009 F250 Lariat PSD CC 4x4 that I purchased about 3 weeks ago. The truck runs great, has no codes, and as far as I know it has not regend once yet (I've put on about 600 miles since I bought it). The truck has 35,000 miles and I have no idea if the previous owner ever cleaned out the tailpipes. Once I started reading about the soot in the tailpipes, I immediately went out and checked mine...low and behold, I had black soot.
Below is a video of me cleaning it out. Personally, I don't think it is that much, but I'm new to Ford and new to diesel. I honestly expected to see some kind of soot. Don't really know if I should call the dealer or not. The truck was a certified pre-owned and has a warranty, but I'm getting 12-13 mpg in the city and after reading some of the posts, it sounds like my mpg's will get worse if they replace it. Also, I have no smoke at all when I'm driving the truck.
