Wiring Help

Hello,

I have a 76 F-250 4X4. When I got it the wiring was fried. I yanked all the harnesses and stuff our of dads 75 junker and put them in mine. Problem is, I took a two month break becuase of summer heat.

I have a factory fuel tank selector switch next to my heat and AC controls. I have a brown wire and an orange wire that comes off the back of the switch and is hanging there. I don't remember where these were supose to tie in at since i took the two month break. There are also some heavier gauge orange wire that come off of it that are tied into the factory harness.

Thanks

I don't know if this will help you or confuse you, as I only have a wiring diagram for a 1979. Regardless, here's what it shows coming out of the switch:

orange = fuel gauge
red = 12+ (eventually ties in at voltage regulator)
Blue = mid tank sending unit
Green / red =rear tank sending unit
Brown / white = fuel selector valve (soleniod)

I appreciate it, but no, it doesn't. Mine has:
2 Orange
1 Green
1 Green/Red
1 Brown/White

Now, they are all factory taped and go behind the inst cluster. About mid ways across the IC, a smaller gauge single orange comes out of the wire loom and a single brown does the same. The 2 original orange and green and green red go on to tie into a plug.

I will get pics shortly.

Where is the selector valve solenoid at?

Here we go. The Brown/White wire has the gray connector, the orange has a brown connector.

OK. Disregard the brown/white wire. I found the fuel selector solenoind and it had a brown wire on it that was cut, so i spliced these two together. Still completely lost on the orange wire though.

the selector solenoid is under the cab on the drivers side, towards the rear. if your truck is off when you flip the switch, you can hear it work.

Not getting much response here, but let me clean all this up a bit. I unraveled the factory tape to see what I am dealing with. here is what I have.

2 Orange
1 Green
1 Green/Red
1 Brown/White

Now, the wire on the fuel selector solenoid is brown/white and was cut so i spliced those two together.

I found the rear tank sending unit had the green wire. Its not loose anywhere so i can assume I can leave this wire alone.

The green/red wire is also complete and tied in so I can leave it alone.

One of the orange wires is tied in and one is not.

Ponder on this thought while I go out to take a couple of pictures.

Alright, I am terrible at explaining things in writing so i'll give it my best shot.

This pic is of the orange wire I have connected to nothing. This is the one I am trying to figure out where it goes. Now, above the brown connector in the picture, the wire is 10 gauge and after the connector is 12 gauge.

This picture shows the factory connection. I have a green, green/red, and a orange wire here. The orange actually comes back out and was cut. I connected this one to the tank sending unit. Maybe wrong, I don't know.

Here is how I currently have the sending unit hooked up. The orange wire coming from the left goes over the door frame and comes out a hole. I hooked up the orange wire from the factory connection as they are the same gauge, color and appear visually to go together. Just below the red snap connector, above my finger, the wire is green/red.

Somebody has got to have the answer here. Surely I have not brought up the most stumping post of all time.

Mike,

It does. However, the 75 that my new harness came out of did not, I will have to fix that later I guess.

Why do you ask?

I have a 73 F100 that never had A/C to begin with. I put factory A/C in it about 2 years ago. I'm almost positive that the heavy orange and brown wires your asking about went to the blower control switch on mine. Is your blower control switch hooked up yet? If you don't figure this out by tomorow evening, I'll see if I can get a look at mine if it doesn't require taking too much stuff back apart.

Ya, thanks. Yes, I have the blower controls hooked up. They are much larger than these that I am talking about. These come off of the tank selector switch.

Jason....you got me stumped. My truck is a SWB and there fore doesn't have room to put 2 tanks....That is actually about the only modification I haven't done. I have several wiring diagrams. Give me a day or two and I'll see what I can come up with.
