seen a couple for sale here in Colorado, though I really dont think you are gaining anything over a 3.73 axle v10 as the v8 only came with 4.10 axle ratio. I would not think there would be a MPG savings in that case, the only reason I can see to getting the v8 instead of the v10.... maybe someone who has one will let us know what their MPG is?

No it's not. Not according to the VIN that was supplied by the seller in the ebay ad.
The VIN came back to a 2000 Limited 4x4 5.4L Excursion with a limited slip differential. It had a medium parchment interior.
That was a 5.4L powered Excursion.

I have seen a few. They have the muffler or resonator hanging low at the rear and the exhaust pipe coming out at the back bumper. If you look at the exhaust on this one on eBay you will see what I am speaking of...

I do not know if ALL 5.4 V-8 have that exhaust setup or not. But it looks awful IMHO!

I have an 2003 5.4L 4x4. I would have preferred a V10, but I got this one at auction cheap, so I didn't have a choice (was actually there to by a minivan!). I don't do much towing, but I just pulled a Land Rover Discovery on a tandem trailer (about 6000+lb total) and it did just fine. I get about 15mpg on the highway and 12 around town - I don't think that's any better than a V10.

The 5.4L could be had with 3.73s OR 4.10s.
Most of the 5.4L made their way to fleets although I've seen a few of them here in Hawaii that are not fleet and once saw a LIMITED (!) 4wd with the 5.4L. Seems to me that's a person only concern with how he looked and not anything else.
I doubt Ford thought about the Greenies EVER when making this truck. They offered the 5.4L in because they could. Even though the V10 was standard on the 4x4 models, some people wanted to save a little dough and got the 5.4L.

To give some credit to the 5.4 though, at least it has more potential when it comes to modifying it for more power than the V10. The 5.4 has a lot more aftermarket support than the V10 although it's not much.
