How many has a 5.4 V8

I am NOT trying to start a debate or argument or anything like that.

I have never seen a 4x4 Excursion with a 5.4 V8. Are there very many out there? Anybody have one? I would like to hear input on the 5.4 V8 in a 4X4 Excusion.

that's a v10 6.8L. Or at least the remains of one.

seen a couple for sale here in Colorado, though I really dont think you are gaining anything over a 3.73 axle v10 as the v8 only came with 4.10 axle ratio. I would not think there would be a MPG savings in that case, the only reason I can see to getting the v8 instead of the v10.... maybe someone who has one will let us know what their MPG is?

I tested both an Expedition and Excursion with the 5.4 and thought the expedtion, much less the heavier Excursion, was underpowered for ITSELF, much less to pull anything or loaded

I think the 5.4 option was Ford's weak attempt to deflect the wacko 'green' crowd's rantings....

No it's not. Not according to the VIN that was supplied by the seller in the ebay ad.

The VIN came back to a 2000 Limited 4x4 5.4L Excursion with a limited slip differential. It had a medium parchment interior.

That was a 5.4L powered Excursion.

I have seen a few. They have the muffler or resonator hanging low at the rear and the exhaust pipe coming out at the back bumper. If you look at the exhaust on this one on eBay you will see what I am speaking of...

I do not know if ALL 5.4 V-8 have that exhaust setup or not. But it looks awful IMHO!

I have an 2003 5.4L 4x4. I would have preferred a V10, but I got this one at auction cheap, so I didn't have a choice (was actually there to by a minivan!). I don't do much towing, but I just pulled a Land Rover Discovery on a tandem trailer (about 6000+lb total) and it did just fine. I get about 15mpg on the highway and 12 around town - I don't think that's any better than a V10.

The 5.4L could be had with 3.73s OR 4.10s.

Most of the 5.4L made their way to fleets although I've seen a few of them here in Hawaii that are not fleet and once saw a LIMITED (!) 4wd with the 5.4L. Seems to me that's a person only concern with how he looked and not anything else.

I doubt Ford thought about the Greenies EVER when making this truck. They offered the 5.4L in because they could. Even though the V10 was standard on the 4x4 models, some people wanted to save a little dough and got the 5.4L.

Mine was probably a fleet vehicle at some point. It's got a very basic interior - it doesn't even have carpet, just vinyl! However, it does have 4.10 ls.

I've seen quite a few Limited 4x4s with the 5.4.

To give some credit to the 5.4 though, at least it has more potential when it comes to modifying it for more power than the V10. The 5.4 has a lot more aftermarket support than the V10 although it's not much.

The above post poses a very valid point when it comes to mods.

Very good point AORTIZEXCURSION

After I think about it more and more the 5.4 could be moded up horsepower wise dollar for dollar cheaper than the V-10 with after market parts. Humm.............

Plus, IMO, the 5.4L sounds worlds better with a pipe on it than a V10.

And very true, superchargers are pretty easy to come by for the 2V 5.4L!

there are more then a few around here. alot of gov fleet excursions have the 5.4.

but honestly the v10 is slow stock i cannot imagine how terribly slow the 5.4 would be. and the v10 has a good bit more power stock to stock ofcourse.
