How many has a 5.4 V8
#31
Most of the 5.4 4x4s were fleet vehicles with the XLT pkg. There aren't a lot because Ford made a bunch more $ by selling the Limited and EB models and they came std with the V10. That's why Chevy never got a lot into selling their SUV as police vehicles after they stopped production of the Impala. They were able to option out all their SUV and make a lot more $.

The easiest thing to do would be to add a small single turbo (maybe a remote mount) to the stock 5.4 along with some supporting mods such as fuel injectors, MAF meter and a conservative tune. 6 pounds of boost would really wake the truck up.
Plus, without the parasitic drag of a supercharger you can run less boost and make more power while using less fuel utilizing a proper turbo.

grab a Lightning intake, fuel rail/injectors and a take-off blower. Most L guys yank the factory blower to add a KB blower...so you can find them for cheap.
then you find the pulleys and idler from a L. It is simply a matter of tuning after that. I guess if you really wanted to get all fancy, you could do just a straight L motor swap. I know quite a few 97-02 Expy guys have done the swap.
just by bolting on the L stuff, and tuning you should be about 350 crank HP vice the stock 255 HP
and with a 8 psi pulley you could easily see 400 HP at the crank....the 5.4 motor is good for about 10 psi in a daily driver. after that, you need forged.

of course a few stumbling blocks will exist. but for the most part, adding a blower to the 5.4 2v is a joke. Enough people have done it that the kinks are mostly ironed out.

The mods we do to our Lightnings wouldn't really carry over to your engine, except maybe intake filters and exhaust stuff.
Most of our mods are directly related to our Lightning build.
Your drivetrain is not as stout as the ones in the L's. I don't think they even put PMR's in the n/a 5.4's.

Do you wanna build one, or do you want to mod yours?

If I was to ever do this I wouldn't be using the engine that's in there now, I'd want another one.

No, I'm actually in South Texas. Awhile back I asked you about that Houston area shop (Webster to be exact) and that was because I was in the area and wanted to go take a look at their shop and just pick their brain's. I didn't get to stop by but I'd like to some time in the future.
Was the east coast reference because of JDM Engineering?

The one in Texas is really on the leading edge for doing turbo's in the Gen 2 Lightnings. They definitely know how to make the Lightning sing with a turbo.
JDM really knows their way around Ford engines, period. They've done a lot of stuff with a lot of different Ford builds, including the GT engine. With that in mind, swapping out the engine in your beast and stuffing a Lightning mil under the hood would probably be easier for them. They would probably handle any hurdles that may come up, like modifying the engine harness, or anything else that may come up.
They may have even already done this for an Expedition or Excursion, so they might already have it down pat.
Going with a Lightning mil aint gonna be cheap tho, bro. I'd seriously look into beefing up the internals in your engine and slapping a turbo on it. I'm sure that would be a LOT cheaper.

I have seen a few. They have the muffler or resonator hanging low at the rear and the exhaust pipe coming out at the back bumper. If you look at the exhaust on this one on eBay you will see what I am speaking of...

I do not know if ALL 5.4 V-8 have that exhaust setup or not. But it looks awful IMHO!
