Thumbs up I've Been Spartanized

Well did the install today and so far i'm another very happy Spartan customer. I'm running the 210 tune and theres definitly much more power and the tranny shifts like a dream. Not nearly as much smoke as i imagined. Actually only see a little with 3/4 or more throttle. Not much more then with my DPF installed as mine always leaked even leaving the dealers lot. As for mileage I can only say I cleared the computer and drove for 104 miles down flat interstate and hovered around 21mpg. Now is that right well i don't know. I do know that normally the needle is a good bit further off the full mark during that trip so i'm very positive the mileage is better just don't know how much better. Before, the computer on that same trip would say 16.5mpg so obviously i'm hoping the computer is close. Before the lie O meter was around .5-1 mpg too high. Man, its sure is nice not being worried about when my next regen. My truck now feels like it can breath and feels very relaxed on the hwy. Theres still a little hesitation off the line but about 1/2 less than before but when she hits you'd better be hanging on. I can't imagine what the 275 or 310 tune feels like.

I can't wait to get my truck back from the dealer and install the 210 tune and the DPF delete pipe, sounds like your really happy with it. How are your EGT's, I am curious how the 210 tune will work for towing since I will be towing 10,000 lb daily.

Egt's should be good with the the 210. Remember, it will defuel if the egt's get to about 1400-1425. And, with the version you have I don't think you will even see 1400!!!!! That's unless you are towing real heavy, or going up some big hills.....

Thanks Mick, I do live in the foothills, but the roads are'nt too steep, I just hope that I don't have a problem with it defueling everytime I go up a hill, my buddy has a dodge ram with a Edge programmer and he see's around 1350 going up some of the hills around here, so I was just concerned that those temps are getting close to the 1400 range and that I may have a problem with it defeuling.

I have heard nothing but good reviews from the spartan tune. They say 1,000 lbs ft are possible w/ just the tune and dpf delete. Thats crazy. I'm just curious about when it comes smog time. Do you guys just have the dpf re installed and stock tune b4 u go in? I also hear they are going to start smog on all 98 and up diesels very soon.

You can get more that 1000 out of it, how about 1165.4.

If you live in a state that requires smog on vehicles, you return everything to stock, then take it in. doesn't take that long to put everything back on. Here in Texas, they don;t check crap on diesel trucks. Not really anything on gas vehicle too........

Well i'm not sure of this so someone correct me if I'm wrong. But if they go back to 1998 for smog check then i'm assuming thats related to having the CAT converter on your truck correct? The reason i'm asking is that the soot filtration only started around 2007 or 08. If this is correct then anyone doing a DPF delete only should be able to pass the test as the CAT is still installed. If they do go back to 98 regarding soot restrictions then alot of people would be installing some sort of aftermarket DPF system which seems near impossible to me. Anyone with thoughts?

I dont beleive that the Govt. can make you install anything on your truck that it didnt come with. Besides whos gonna pay for all of this in todays economy? If your truck was built in 06 and it met the emissions standards then thats all it has to meet. My truck would never meet todays or tomarrows emissions requirements even with the cat installed. I dont think that most states will tailpipe test diesels. JMO.

Here in NY we cant even get new cars to pass a tail pipe test when it gets below 20* cause they run so rich...so try to get a older diesel to do it yeah right.

Well first tank of fuel has been burned. Mileage was better than before but not as good as i hoped. The computer said 19.9 but I hand calculated at 17.6mpg. Now that being said I normally get 15 (hand calculated) on this particular trip with the way I drove it so i'm looking at a 2.5mpg improvment. Not terrible but the computer kinda got my hopes up. Normally the computer reads around 1mpg too high but now its a little over 2 high. Its weird that the new programming changed this. Does anyone know why? I'm hoping that the next tank will be better once the computer has learned and everything is settled in. By the way that number comes from 85% hwy, 15%city. Hwy running 70mph. I drove this run with a light foot with only 1 short acceleration from the on ramp to get on the hwy. Power is amazing as when I did this the rear fought hard to stay connected to the payment. Its like the truck lost 2000lbs of weight.

By the way I'll be driving this weekend about 800 miles so will post back with more info.

Glad to hear your happy. I've been mostly running the 275 tune for the last 4,000 miles and have went from 11.5 to 17 mpg, hand calculated. It seemes to me like the more I drove it the better mileage I got. Almost like each tank did a little better. Give it some time and keep track of your mileage, and keep us posted. The overall performance of the truck is amazingly better isn't it? I couldn't believe it when I first drove mine after the install. If you think the 210 is amazing, try the 275! It almost feels like the front end of the truck is going to come off the ground! I can't wait till the 310 comes out.

sorry to go off topic, but I think this whole 98 and up smog is because they caught on to all of us dumping black smoke. My dads 02 7.3 is the first cat ive seen on the diesels. just imagine the sales of cats as everyone that threw theres away needs one.
