My High School Senior Project Thread (Lots of pics!!)
So this weekend I was able to start on my senior project which is getting my 78 F-150 with a 302 and c4 to run more relialbly, with some more power also! My first steps was to pull both the engine and transmission.
I am putting on a new edelbrock 600 cfm carb, edelbrock performer intake and cam, timing chain, all new gaskets and fluids, fix all leaks, tci shift kit (already has a rebuilt c4 in it with about 5,000 miles on it) 3.70 gears from the crappy stock 2.75. Also fixing all the dash lights, that aren't working, replacing the original 31 year old shocks, recalibrating the speedo that is like 10-15 mph off. And at the end dressing up the engine bay! Hopefully adding a cd player also!!
Here are some pics of my progress so far.
The starting point
Theres the transmission
Notice how clean it is compared to everything else
Removing the engine
The engine and me!! All those clothes and me where clean at the start of the day!!
No more engine!!
Stayed tuned for progress!!

Hey Jake, AKA Curtis, here is a bit of help on the Speedo Cal.

Doing my part to help America's youth.
Also, good job on picking this project rather than putting fart cans on imports!

None yet, I only have a $2000 budget for it and heads are really expensive!! But it will probably have Ford Racing GT-40 heads. Any idea how much it costs to get heads port and polished?
I already have all those parts mentioned, my mentor has a edelbrock carb on his 69 GMC and has had good luck with it. I will let you guys know what I think though.
Thanks for all the compliments and all and will be sure to keep you posted, but not working on it until first weekend in August...... stupid family reunion.

I'm not familiar with Holley's but I have done a few Carter's and a Rochester or two... If that 600 cfm Edelbrock is a Performer 1405, it's nothing more than a variation of the Carter AFB square-bore - it's a fairly simple carb to work on *if* you have a full kit of rods, jets, and springs to go with it... I've got the 1405 on my Fury and have it calibrated 1 stage lean on both the power and cruise modes - mostly for this altitude as it was running way too rich (doesn't help they come factory tuned for sea-level out of the box) but it also helped with gas mileage... I've been told that the key to this carb is that once you get it tuned the way you like it, don't touch it! BTW, I didn't buy the carb for the Fury, it came with the car when I inherited it...
