agreed, the Holley carb's sure won't beat a Edelbrock any day when it comes to fuel mileage, the Holley's tend to dump to much fuel, thus MPG goes down, and spark plugs get fouled, thus there easily flooded,

and metering rods are much better than a power valve,

Sorry to break it to you guys, but carburetor problems are almost always operator error. Just because you couldn't get yours to run right doesn't mean the entire brand is bad. If your carburetor fouls plugs, starts hard cold, or whatever else, it's because you don't have it set up correctly. I'm not pointing any fingers, but many of you need to learn what you're doing before you give out bad advice.

i would counter, Holley's always burn up more fuel than Edelbrocks its a well known fact, and your wrong it isn't bad advice, its just experience, and i have known many Holley's to cause grief, even mechanics i know who know there stuff have problems with Holley's, there just a finicky carb, and they do have there down falls, which are well known, and thus i would not suggest them on a daily driver,

also you say its operator error which i would agree with a lot of things, but when its impossible for the operator to tune the carb properly, then when does it go from operator error to mechanical error?

and i agree people who don't have knowledge in a certain area should not be giving out advice, but i will tell you i have plenty of knowledge and experience, and from what i have seen Holley's cause more grief than there worth,

i understand if you can dial in a Holley it may work fine when it comes to plug fouling and hard cold starts, but it has so many other down falls its not worth it, plus tuning them is a real pain,

in the end anyone can run what they want, but from my experience there no good, and Holley will never be under the hood of my truck, and i suggest anyone running a truck as a daily driver to avoid Holley carb's

Update Time!!

This weekend I reinstalled my engine and transmission!! I didn't get it all hooked up and operational, but its within a few hours of being done.

One problem I am having is the kick down rod. I just added a edelbrock 1406 carb and performer intake to my 78 F-150 w/ a 302 and c4 and when I went to install the kickdown rod from the transmission back to the carb it wouldn't work, totally wrong postition. Has anyone had this problem?? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!!

The final step after getting the engine all running is going to be putting in the new ring and pinon.

Here are some pics:

Alright update time!!!

This past two weeks I have been able to get it all hooked up and running!! I was able to drive it. It is so much better than what it was!! Starts up right away, and a lot more power too!! Then we did the ring and pinon swap 2.75 to 3.70 also made a big diffenece. Overall a very good dd combo with good power and driveability. The carb was tuned perfectly out of the box.

Starting Point:

My drum brakes, looks brand new!!!

Old 2.75

I don't think the diff fluid has ever been changed

New Ring and Pinon in!!

Its pretty much all done, we are still trying to find the sweet spot for the mod. valve in the tranny, speedo recalibration, dash lights, front marker light, new fuel pump. But overall its done and running great. Thanks for your guys help!!

Because its a school project we have a max of $2000 budget and I have at about $1900 right now so I have no money to spare. But in the near future, it will be getting headers and a dual exhuast.

Thanks!! Ummm.... okay i will tomrow its dark out now and don't have any recent pics. But it doesn't look that much different, as it wasn't part of my project to do anything to the outside. Some small things tho.
