Need Help!

I have a 93 Flareside with a 302 and a Auto OD.

Ok my truck's gear selector needle (Auto) hasn't worked since I got it. It really doesn't bother me, but I want it to work properly since I may have to loan it to my Uncle or my Mother some time.

My question is: How hard is it to fix this problem. My needle is all the way over to the right. I am going to have a little time off of work in the next week and would like to get it fixed.

Any help, or tips would be greatly appreciated. I tried to use the search on here, but never found anything that applied to my problem... Thanks, Allen.

I can tell you that your needle is on a spring(pulling it to the right). The selector also connects to it will a thin cable. Your cable has likely snapped or disconnected somehow and the spring now keeps it to one side. It makes the loop under your steering column as well. Perhaps if your remove some trim you may see the cable and problem.
Hope this helps.

Thank you very much!

I am going to remove all the trim next week, but just wanted a little heads up on what to expect, or what to look for. Thanks, Allen.

You bet....and I was referring to the selector cable that runs the loop under the column.
At the very least you should be able to rig the selector so that it works.

Yeah I just have never taken it apart. I have been all through my last Mustang (Fox Body). I am just starting in on this truck, so I always like to at least try and get a clue before I tear into something.
I will look for the cable and anything else that might attach in some way to the shifter on the column.

I had same problem on my `87 some years ago. I ordered the indicator kit from directfordparts.com in which you get the little cable attached to a new indicator. You need to ease the instrument cluster out a bit to get the indicator fitted then feed the little cable round the column, put the loop end on the button on the shifter and attach the plastic tab on the outter cable with the single screw. You can then adjust the pointer by sliding the tab before finally tightening the screw. Probably takes about 40min.
