does a 05 crown vic 4.6 fit my 99 exped. 4.6?

i have a 99 ford expedition that has a 4.6 that destroyed a piston and head and block, so its no good, lol, i have a 05 crown vic police car 4.6 with less then 30k miles on it, i have been looking in google for a while but cannot find a good site, n e ways i wana know if it would bolt on right with taking the computer and all out of the expedition and replaceing everything with the crown vic stuff exept for the tranny, does it fit the tranny??? i know the crown vic is a SOHC and the expedition 4.6 is a DOHC i know this because i took the whole engine apart and can see the cams, its a windsor made 4.6 i dont know the crown vics make, but im almost sure it will all work im just wanting other ideas and info, please help me out, thank you....

Both of those engines are SOHC. Ford never produced a DOHC Expedition. Your '99 Expy is a non-PI head engine, and the '05 Vic is a PI head engine. You'll need an intake manifold from an '01-up F150/Expy to get it to work right. Physically,it's swap right in,and is not a big change-the trans will work perfectly, and the motor mounts, etc will all bolt on with no problems.

strange because as i am writing this im looking that the engine in the expedition has 2 cams, yes 2 of them on top of each head, i had a chevy that one did just have one cam right in the middle of it, soo..... if what u r saying is true then i got a verry verry rare 4.6 made in the windsor plant lol

The Windsor plant has never manufactured a single DOHC modular engine. All of the DOHC modulars are Romeos, and none have ever been installed in an Expedition by Ford. Now,what you may have there is an engine swapped vehicle, and I'd be wary of how good the job was done-esp since you've already lunched a piston.

Is ther one cam per head or is there two. Single cam refers to one cam per head, dual refers to two cams per head. I think that you have one cam per head as that is the way the 4.6 came from the factory. Dual cams were 5.4 put in Navigators. Unless like you said you have a very special 4.6 there.

Question

ok so i have the 2 heads and there is one cam above each head, so in all total i have 2 cams on the engine, do they refer as sohc as in each head has one???? if it was a dohc they be 2 cams on each head? i think i know what ur talking about, so one cam over each head is a sohc, thats right right?

Correct. It is some thing that has been that way, it is per head, not engine.

Trans will physically bolt to the engine. You might need a different flexplate-the CV might have the 11" torque converter instead of the 12" converter that the trucks use. You might also have a need for the VSS on the extension housing(don't remember if the '99 Expy needs a VSS input or not),the '05 CV might not have teeth on the output shaft to drive that VSS. You need the truck intake-the CV fuel rails have the inlets in the wrong location, and the TB is facing the wrong direction.

Definitely doable. It'll require a bit of extra work, but it's definitely a smart swap.

It will run better, that's no doubt. It won't be a huge difference, but it will be better.
