I guess I'm not all that concerned about tire size. I know that I get around 16 unloaded on the highway and 9 in the city. Based on what I've read the power gains alone are worth it but I would really enjoy the mileage. As a previous 6.0 owner I read thousands of posts on the proper tune to use when pulling a camper as well as Ford's ability to detect a removed tune. Haven't seen any real talk on that. Is there any new info. BTW Matt has always been the go to person for tuners and programs IMO.

I'm buying soon as I feel this motor is well suited for the added power as opposed to the 6.0. Mine is an 09 F-350 build 3 CC 3:73 SB with 1600 miles (20") wheels. Towing 15,000 lb this summer and would like to know about the proper tune to run.

Enjoy the great info but only understand imperial #'s

Added Spartan 275, CAT/DPF Delete and AFE Intake

All's I can say is WOW, what a difference. I have yet to run a tank of fuel thru, but performance is amazing the truck actually can breathe. I will post my mileage gains, (hand calculated of course for non-belivers), when I run a few tanks thru. As for tire size, completely stock 20in rims.

Do you guys in the US (don't know Canada's laws) worry about getting caught with the DPF delete? I understand penalties are pretty steep for messing with the emissions. I have seen the 6.4s with single exhausts and the factory dual tips spew out smoke. It seems to me that it would be pretty easy for the law to spot the 'deleters'. I like what and why you are doing it just don't know if I would have the gonads to take the chance. Its that fear that keeps me in my old 7.3.

Not much can be done

Not much they can do except send you in for an emmission check. And if that is the case. Put the DPF and CAT back in and return the struck back to stock as far as tunes. It takes about one hour once you have done it.
But as far as smoke, the truck smokes very little. Only on a serious take off and I rarely do that. The truck smokes about the same as always. Hard to tell the difference just looking.

I have read in many places that the fine could be more than $10,000. Google your question and you will find out, it is much more than quoted above:

"Not much they can do except send you in for an emmission check"

I don't believe that statement for one second.

MPG increase and power

I love the power and the easy tuneability with the Spartan. But what I really love is the MPG. Hand calculated 3 tanks now.
17mpg in town and 21 to 22 on the highway. Thats with the 275 tune, and I am not being that light on the throttle.
I could let off a bit I am sure and up the MPG.

DPF delete

Good Day,
I was wondering about installing a straight pipe inplace if the DPF, can anyone explain how the "cleaning exhaust " function works? is it by differential pressure across the dpf or back pressure?

thanks

While there certainly is a need based trigger for the regenerations there is also a drive cycle trigger if there has not been a regeneration for some time. This drive cycle regeneration is why you must use a tuner that shuts off the regenerations inorder to replace the DPF with a straight pipe, as once a regeneration starts it will not shut off untill a target temperature is reached in the exhaust system that will be unattainable without the DPF.

cops don't have equipment to test ON THE STREET.. so they can ticket you, you usually have the ability to contest/prove they are wrong.. so you go get a smog test whereever is required (and put the dpf back of course prior)..

it IS a paperwork and time hassle..

in my texas county, my superduty would be exempt from testing

How about if you are pulling a trailer on a state highway/freeways and a weigh station/inspection station is open. Technically we are supposed to pull in there no? If a anyone inspects the truck they will immediately notice the lack of any type of emission equipment. Needless to say I am running a 210/250 tune with neither cat or dpf and love it. The 275 was pretty harsh in the shifts for me.

why are we supposed to pull in to a weigh station? and how would they see the lack of emissions equip? you think they are coming out to lay on their back for every truck?
besides I don't consider myself a commercial enterprise, I am carrying only personal stuff.

Federal law will supersede your county laws in Texas. If and when the FED puts a push on to catch violators they can do it. Especially now with the economy in the pits. I don't have to crawl under a truck to see if the engine exhaust is modified. Just drive up a hill and if you see black smoke, more than likely the vehicle is illegal, then verify the year of mfr. Not rocket science.

If police forces can operate radar, they sure as heck can do this.

Sct

SCT livewire gets you 21 mpg. SPARTAN doesn't. So if you are wanting more mpg, then go with the SCT.
