Hasn't the voltage-regulation been made a function of the truck's PCM, rather than by an internal regulator?

If so, then wouldn't the level of charge depend on whatever computer the store hooked up to the alternator?

I thought that the voltage regulator was a diode network which was located inside the alternator casing.

Your right

And I replaced the alternator and it fixed the issue, now getting 14+v at idle.

I know where I'm NOT going for new alternators!

I'm glad you got it fixed.
