Official So Cal Diesel Fuel Price thread
#616
Thought it would be fun to resurrect this old diesel price thread.
I paid $3.99 for Chevron a few days ago. RUL at the same station was $4.49 IIRC. This was after the latest tax increase on 6/30.
That was for B20 diesel. B20 flavor is at about half the local stations now. Our older trucks specified B5 maximum. I think the 6.7 was the first model rated for B20. My 6.0 truck runs fine on the B20, mileage is as close to exactly the same as I can determine, and I do keep precise records on every drop of fuel. I changed fuel filters a few days ago and it looked just like any other 10k mile filter. I guess I don't see any downside to B20.

Flew out to SAN this weekend to visit family Bill. Fuel didn’t seem that far off of IL prices. As usual a 70 cent per gallon swing from near the airport to further out. Missy and Aidric drove out July 4, and are driving back next week before marching band practice starts for Aidie. They said NE had the cheapest gas that only went up as they drove west. Glad to be headed back to relatively quiet IL!

Best price today near me is $6.29. We paid $4.39 at a station in Casper WY, but most of NV, UT, WY was around $4.79/gal. Paid $5.79 at our last stop in Jean NV. Terrible Herbst has a newish station there with 96 pumps. Huge! His casino failed, but I guess the fuel business keeps the town afloat. Prices steadily increased as we drove south from there.

Oh yeah, it's true. I can get $5.99 this morning, so it is down a little bit. Also true that almost all stations have gone to 20% BioD as their only offering. I can't tell any difference, not even in MPG, so I don't really mind except for the part about paying more for it. I've also had a tank of it sit for several months and that was okay too. In fact, I changed my fuel filters yesterday and nothing scary in there.
