2004 Ford F150 Lariat 4wd SuperCrew. When you bounce the bed up and down, you hear a creaking or groaning sound. I took off the shocks, and still does it. I lubricated the rubber bushings around the leaf springs, but no change. Any one else experience this noise?
Took it by service department today, and they think it is in the leaf springs, probably the rubber spacers. I'm not sure how to lubricate them, but I will try and spray something on them. Has anyone else heard what I am describing?
yeah definately sounds like the leaf springs are sqeaking when i have mine on the lift everyonce in awhile a spray white lithium grease on all the bushing and pads, its better when axle is hanging as you get actually get inbetween the springs
My '06 did the same thing, turned out to be the spring shackle bushing developed some slop due to the bolt not tightened enough from the factory. Ford replaced the shackle and bushing under warranty, then lubed remaining bushings with white lithium grease and tightened up the other shackle bolts. Problem solved.
Thanks for the replies. I jacked mine up from the trailer hitch which opened up the leaf springs. I sprayed a silicone all over the pads between the springs and set it back down. Noise was gone!! I will probably have to do this again soon, but at least I have that noise gone. When I hit a larger bump, I still hear a clunk noise somewhere in the rear area, but that I can live with until I find it!
After checking everything I could think of, I think the clunk noise when turning into driveways, etc... must be coming from the leaf springs too. however, I don't have a fix yet. I was hoping it was the spare tire, but it is tight. Anyone else experience this?
I had the clunk problem and fixed mine by tightening the rear shackle bolts on the leaf springs. They were both loose enough so I could tighten them 1-2 full turns. Just don't tighten them too much or they will bind and cause other problems.
