Franklin2 - I am really glad that you posted the picture of the "swiss cheese" frame. I had a discussion on here a while back with a guy who swore that *ALL* F100's had swiss cheese frames. I was sure that mine did NOT, but never having seen one, I could not say for sure. I have searched the internet for pictures of F100 frames, but could not find anything like your picture.
Now that I see the picture, I can say for certain that my 1982 F100 does NOT have a swiss cheese frame.
Regarding the original question, I take my 1982 F100 to the landfill frequently and I can tell you that it weighs around 4300 pounds empty. It is a 300-L6 with a T-18 trans, 9" rear, standard cab, long bed. It has an old wood/aluminum cap on it that probably weighs 200 pounds by itself, so the truck without the cap would be around 4100 pounds empty.

The GVWR is the maximum legally allowable weight of the vehicle, including passengers, fuel, and payload. An empty truck obviously weighs much less than a loaded truck.
Your F-100 does not weight 5000 lbs empty.

I'd believe 3500ish -- With two full tanks of gas, two grown men, a cap, and misc crap behind the seat, mine weighed out of the transfer station at 4200ish lbs. Figure 200lbs for the Gas, 200Lbs for me, 200lbs for my FIL, 200lb for the cap, I get 3400 lbs. Light indeed! Mine's a long bed, I6, T-18. The helper springs out back really help with anything resembling a load.

Is that w/o a driver? That's 230 lbs more than the Truck Facts book says. However, the # given in the book is for base trucks with absolutely no options. In the shop manual, and also in the Facts book if I remember correctly, there's a table for adding all the options. It wouldn't take much to make it to 230 lbs if he has any options.

Well, with the Master Parts Catalog, which that came from, in a form where I can search it very little can't be found. You just have to know how to ask the system for it. And, after you play with it for a few years (is that all?) then it starts to become a bit less obtuse - but just a bit.
