new error codes hard shifting
hi its me again. driving back from work my transmission was shifting real hard and i noticed it specifically when i was going into 2nd. i have an automatic and not sure what tranny it is but i checked codes when i got home and the 622 as always was there and now a 452 is there i looked it up on here and found a couple threads but i didnt know if they pertained to me cause my truck was a few years newer. any idea what this is my odometer and speedometer work without problems incase that is the psom thing. thanks for any help. also there was a small harness on the tranny that wasnt connected when i bought the truck i reconnected it a week later and nothing seemed to change. since i plugged it in i put about 400 miles on it with out problems.

My speedo worked fine, very smooth throughout the range up and down.
It had the same effect, hard shift to second but would also have a false neutral when it hit drive.
Replaced it with a junk yard speedo head and the problem has yet to happen again.
I was hesitant to change it, every post I read here the poster had said the speedo would be erratic at a given range and or peg the needle once a given speed was achieved.
One code tends to trigger another, it doesn't know how fast its going so it doesn't know when to shift, so it doesn't know when to lock up the TC either.
There is a chance its the VSS at the rear axle too, myself I swapped in the one from my other truck first to see if that was the problem. No help and did the same thing, that's when I went for the speedo head in the hope it would fix the problem.
Anyway the point I'm trying to make is the fact your speedo works smooth and consistent doesn't indicate it is working right.

Doh!! hate it when that Sh_ _ happens!
Be careful of the enticer ring, don't bend fold or spindle it in anyway when working by it. The VSS will be just over it as you know with very little space to get in there to knock the speed sensor up out the hole in.
A well placed "pry" against the ring gear perhaps? Hope you don't end up pulling the axles and diff to get it out.
Only has a single rubber o-ring, shouldn't be that hard to get it out.

hi i took the rear diff cover off and drained the oil. no metal detected in the oil.A couple gouges on the right side (some big solid piece) but all teeth looked good. i ended up prying the sensor out with 2 flatheads from the top. the hole it goes in didnt seem totally drilled out.icould see metal strips hanging from where it was drilled like it wasnt pressed all the way through and the replacement sensor didnt want to go in easily either the bottom has a hair line space between it and the rear diff. im waiting for the rtv sealant to dry. its been 1 hr did some bondoing in the mean time. took a lot of pics while the diff was open. ill add fluid in another hr the sealant said to finish tightening the plate after the rtv sealant set for an hr after i had cranked the screws. cya thanks and i cant give u more MAD props cause i have to spread more around to other people. little rust on cover in a spot and on aninch long section of teeth onthe tall narrow wheel ; may be the enticer ring i scraped off and wiped out what i could. working on the photobucket site but i can email pics of that if u want those too.

like danr1 said i had a major problem on my E250-shifting-was the speedo? crazy as it sounds-from what a Ford guru told me the feed comes from the vss to the speedo- then to the ECM? so you loose power to the computer which thinks the truck is not moving-mine would not do it cold just after it was warmed up-had 5 guys working on this problem for 3 days? have been through 2 speedo units-well i got well over 300K miles on it too! give it a shot!
