Steering Column Campatibility?? 96 F250 2WD 5-speed
Im fixing my dad's 1996 F250 2WD 5-speed 351W
Anyways the steering column blew out the bearings near the steering wheel and wore right down into the shaft metal. I doubt its fixable. Tons of play in the steering wheel. I was going to try and just do the bearings but I ended up breaking the ignition switch/arm that goes into the lower half of the column casing when i separated it into 2 halfs. Now the truck will start but not turn off lol. Anyways I need a new column.
What year F series can i get a column that will work with my dad's truck.
Is there any cars that use the same column? He has tilt column and i was wondering if i can swap in a non-tilt column is thats all i can find.
Thanks for the help. Oh yeah, also is a 4X4 column the same as a the 2WD one in that year?
I read something that said 92- 96 will work 90-91 are longer????
Thanks for the help ahead of time.

92-96 should work, but there are slight differences. I know the horn/cruise/door buzzer connector changed shape, although the wires are still the same. I just swapped a ~95 auto column into a 92 stick and the connector was the only thing I had to work around. I removed all the automatic shifter pieces. The manual steering wheel lock button and its pieces swapped directly in place. I don't know if you could do this between tilt and non-tilt columns though. I also had to transfer the ignition switch but it too bolted directly in.
An airbag is the other thing. From the looks of it though, you should be able to swap all your non-airbag pieces directly in place also.
I've know some cars use the same column and can be made to work, but I don't know the specific details on this.
The best way to do this project is get both columns side by side on the bench and transfer everything you need to the good column. Not tough at all.
