It's about damned time they started thinking in common sense terms. The ranger is too small, underpowered and thirsty for it's size. A mid size truck would actually do well with the 4.6L if the eco boost isn't available at that time.

Ford DOES need to build a Dakota-size truck, but unlike the Ranger, it needs to priced considerably less than the F-150. Leave out the weight increasing frills and give it a peppy V-6 that will get 25mpg or better highway. I would buy one in a heartbeat for the daily commute and use the F-150 on weekends and for hauling larger items.

Sounds like a damn good idea. Hopefully they can refine the ranger alittle more as well and keep it too, so they could have a small, mid and full size truck.

This is old news on FTE. There's a long discusssion already going on in the General Automotive section (since this section covers the 2009 F150).

ehh i always sort of saw the f-150s from a certian year as the umm mid size truck, dont remember the year... but they just sort of look like whimps....

i would actually think they would have brought the f-100 out a little bit sooner, to sort of get more purchases while every one is for the most part ditching the larger trucks and going with the small trucks if trucks at all

I thought that model started in '96 with the 150 class? I agree that year looks undersized. But who can beat the look of the Gen2 Lightning? That is one sharp looking truck.

Those 1997 to 2003 Trucks look good if configured right, my buddy had one that looked like a 4x4 Lightning(reg cab, stepside, shortbed), he had it dolled up a little, but it was one good looking truck, and it was probably just as heavy or heavier than the 1980 to 1996 trucks. My buddy had a 4.6, 5 speed and he claimed to get 20MPG, those trucks were probably the most aerodynamic trucks of all time too. The longbeds looked real goofy though, and non stepside didn't look real good either.

Yeah.. My thoughts exactly! They have a swept look to them. They look GREAT done right though. I love the single cab step sides. I wouldn't mind having one just like mine. Lower the rear to match the front, slap on some 18 or 20'' rims, a little exhaust work and roll around with a hot looking truck.

I'm exactly opposite of you guys, thought the flaresides other then the lightning were goofy looking, and regular cab trucks are very useless to me, I'd never buy one. Except for a lightning of course!
