A little help diagnosing problem on a 94
I have a 94 F250 with 5.8 and E4OD that's been acting up occasionally. The truck will be running fine and then the CEL will come on and the engine will act like it's bogging down and not want to rev. The truck will hardly want to move and it smells like it's running very rich all of the sudden. Needless to say, it's frustrating when it happens at a stop light. If I put it in neutral and pump the gas pedal it will eventually (within a minute) clear out and the engine growls back to normal and takes off with good power.
I've checked vacuum lines and such, all are good. I checked TPS resistance and voltage, the only problem there is a 1.3 volt reading when throttle closed. IAC supply voltage equal to battery voltage with good resistance checks there as well. If I pulled the codes correctly, I get 121,162, 173, 411, and 412.
I feel the problem is electrical due the randomness of it. I plan on cleaning the IAC and adjusting the TPS this weekend when I get a break from work. I'm also tempted to replace the TPS since it's such a pain to get to, but I don't want to spend money I don't have to if it's good.
If anybody can offer some suggestions or troubleshooting tips to help narrow the problem down, i would appreciate it.
I picked the truck up used and can only say it's got a little over 200k on it, the engine pulls good steady vacuum and runs great when it's not acting up and the trans has been rebuilt with upgrades just prior to me purchasing it.
Thanks in advance for any help, I'm just not familiar with Ford's computer controls yet.
