Need Help Decoding a 1950 F-47
I am 15 and I am new to the site and I have had this truck for exactly a year now and when I was 11 I also bought a 1948 and 1949 Mercury M-105 which I worked on in the mean time. I am pretty sure I know the majority of the deal with this truck I have recently been looking for some paint to do some touch ups and I am having trouble finding the proper information to get the same color as the original. If anybody could decode all this for me or at least the paint it would be greatly appreciated.
Engine-OEE-2624 Model-BD83 Trim-16
Paint-41(I believe it is called Strata Blue) Body-JDC50-1654-25047
I also noticed that the engine in this truck has been rebuilt by Ford in Edmonton and I'm not sure if they may have altered the plate on the firewall or not. Thanks again.

Hi Kid!
Welcome to FTE!!!! It's always nice to have someone start out on these trucks who didn't know Moses personally!
I wnated to let you know being your first reply that you might have to be a little patient getting other folks to respond to your questions. I have done a lot of research on Rating Plates, Firewall Plates, and Serial Numbers on these trucks, but there is always something new to learn. I recently posted a thread asking if anyone had the scoop on the "Production Code" section of the late 51-56 F1/F-100 Rating plates and I got one response. So, alot of folks know about the standard US F1 and F-100 stuff, but if you get outside the box there are some challenges....point: don't get discouraged here if the info is slow in coming.
In my research, I found two websites that had some pretty good decription on Canadian Rating Plates and the different numbers. I didn't save them though because I didn't need the info, and of course now I can't find them....But I'll keep looking and get back to you.
If I'm not mistaken, I think the Canadian Mercury Truck designators used the gross vehicle weight as a designator (dropping the last two zero's) so the M47 is a 4700# gross vehicle weight truck - or half ton. Your 105 was a 1 1/2 ton. Was it a stake bed truck? Until 1957 all Canadian trucks had V8s either the 239 (similar to the US RC8) or the Mercury 188. Other than that, your numbers are, for the moment, all Greek to me.
But, I'll keep looking for those web sites and promise to write back if I find them. In the mean time, I think there is a forum on FTE that deals specifacally with Canadian trucks. Maybe one the more seasoned contributors could point you that way. Those folks may have a little more experience with researching your numbers.
Lastly, FTE has a great "Vin Decoder." Now I'm sure you already realize in that in the years of truck we are talking about, these were not Vehicle identification Numbers (VIN) but rather what we had were Serial Numbers.
So keep looking and I will too and hopefully there will be some more inputs to follow!!!!
Talk to ya again,
Dan

Hey Dueller,
Those books are cool. I was wondering (and guess I should have know) that Ford of Canada used their versions of the same books we use! I've got the US variants (and about 6 other pubs) and between all of them, you can finally get the big picture.
Super....The kid needs to start collecting books!!!

I found the paint I was looking for, thanks guys. It was the m-14285 number that I was looking for. I have a decent pile of automotive books but I don't have a lot of the stuff that was actually printed when these things were new. If you still have that book handy I wouldn't mind finding the paint code for my dads truck. It is a 1952 Mercury 3/4 ton express with a the paint number of 39, its is a mint type green. Thanks again.

Hey Merc-kid, I own a 51 mercury m100 and have been looking for books, paint codes ect.... There like the holy grail, I found a guy from ford canada and listen to this, he would not email me what kind of truck I had, but he did mail me my info on my truck. It's like this info is top secret or something. If your interested let me know and I will give you his email.
