I stopped reading at the "above 14K lbs" point, and the '08 F450s are in compliance...

What does the tag on your door say your GVWR is? Mine says 11,400 lbs...

I'd guess you are not in harms way (yet).

But the greenies are coming, just don't look over your shoulder...

03 ranger

My 03 ranger recently has been giving me a little problem I CAN START IT UP FINE WHEN ITS COLD BUT AS SOON AS IT GETS WARM IT DIES I have to keep my foot on the gas to keep it running. It doe not doe this all the time though. The first time it done this it put out a bunch of white to dark smoke. However I went back and started it about 30 to 45 minutes later and it ran fine. The second time it acted up it done the same thing without the smoke but it ran rougher. It now has a pretty steady miss to it, however it has yet to die on me since.my thought was it must have been a fuel issue. When a sensor goes out does it go out and stay out or can it play games with you?Any direction would be greatly appreciated,Thanks

Yes, I know that. I thought the emphasis of the new rules was to bring all the commercial and other diesels over 14k up to '08 compliance, which the 450 is. I skimmed it tho, so let me know if I have that wrong. The CARB/Kali folks have already lost one round of trying to tighten up their emissions more than Federal EPA has, and that's on gassers. So we'll see how far this one gets.

And they wonder why businesses are locating out of CA...

Dan,
The bench mark year is 2007 but model years earlier with this rule Diesel trucks with either GVWR or GCVWR over 14,000 lbs. COULD be required to retrofit with "SootTraps for PM 2.5" regulations based on a California Law passed in 2000. Do you know what the schedule for Fed EPA diesel retrofits will be?

My 2005 F-550 with a PU bed could be impacted that is why I tunned in to the rule pending

that is ridiculous to expect people that already own a vehical to retrofit to pass new emmisions, it will never pass. unless they are going to pay to retrofit everyones vehicals

I honestly think the retro fit will have a hard time passing. The precident for that is how they've always implemented new emissions law for gassers, and that's a whole lot more pollution.

Here's a survey I found in there too: www.arb.ca.gov/dieseltruck

I haven't looked at it, but if I owned an F550, you could bet I'd be filling it out -- especially letting them know about how it'd affect private owners. The '07 compliance part refers to date of engine manufacture, btw. So for Fords all '08s are '07 compliant engines and MYs prior are not. The Dodge and Chevy boys are '07.5+ up (mid-model year change).

Very disturbing -- thanks for the heads-up...

I did do the survey, thanks. It was set up for commercial vehicle operator businesses and I told them my truck is an individual RV use...not much with that kind of truck camper bias from our State Goverment

50% PM retrofit pricing

I was trying to decide on how i would upgrade my fleet for this law, and as of now according to the excel program u can download at www.arb.ca.gov/dieseltruck i'm good until 2013. My main concern now is whether to get retrofits or just buy new engines. Was wondering if anyone had pricing for 50% pm retrofits, would make my decision a lot easier.

Does anyone know what a 50% pm reduction retrofit for a diesel truck 14k or heavier would cost? would help a lot with planning for my company's fleet upgrades for cali regulations.

I have not been able to get official confirmation but Air Resources told me over the phone about $20,000 per conversion for 80% reduction of PM 2.5 and NOX Reduction control. That is why I have converted my 2005 F-550 with a camper in the bed to a registered Motor Home by welding the tie down locking pins to make a permanant installation and qualify for the exemption. I had to file a DMV statement of fact and have a CHP certification. The air board should have links to approved systems or your OEM builder should ba able to provide an estimate for an approved system.
