Whether or not you agreed with his business practices, there were some nice cars that came out of his shop.

CHIP FOOSE COMMENTS ON BOYD CODDINGTON'S PASSING
Chip Foose and everyone at Foose Design are saddened to hear of the untimely passing of legendary hot rod builder Boyd Coddington. Chip and Boyd spent many hours together in the early years of Hot Rods by Boyd, becoming so close that Chip considered Boyd almost as a second father. Boyd allowed Chip and all his employees the freedom to design and fabricate the ultimate in custom vehicles and provided the necessary customers to grow. Boyd formalized the Hot Rod business and thereby legitimized it-the result was the creation of an industry. Boyd’s contribution to the Hot Rod and Aftermarket are significant and unparalleled. “I appreciate all of the opportunities Boyd offered me while I worked with him and I owe a large part of my career and success to the great working relationship we had. I pass on my deep sympathy and respect to everyone at Boyd’s and the Boyd Coddington Family. He will be greatly missed”

Just what I saw on his show, most of his crew jumped ship to Chip Foose. He wasn't a very nice guy on the show. I've only heard and read about some of his business ethics.
I quit watching the show when they were taking really nice, original iron and turning them into cookie cutter hotrods.

As a car guy I loved the show- for awhile.. It just turned into drama- not so much about the cars anymore.. I hope it was just the producers having him 'amp it up' for TV and that what we saw was not typical of the man off camera- I wouldn't have worked for him for 2 minutes..
In an effort to be nice, I will say his death was too soon, and I wish his family well.

I really enjoy watching automotive customizing shows, but I did not like the artificial drama they spent half the show on. I would record these shows on my DVR and then power-watch them, by speeding by all the staged antics to get to the car building segments. I don't know why they think us automotive folks want to see fake drama mixed in with car building, If they want to add something to these shows they should have girls in bikini's washing and waxing the "hot-rods" :-)
