1980's step side box for 1979

Good evening,

I am currently restoring a 1979 shortbox stepside f-100. I have an opportunity to buy a southern early 1980's stepside box.

The two boxes look the same with the exception of a different tailgate and fenders. I would like to take my 1979 fenders and sidestep and put them on the 1980s box. I want the box to be the exact same as a 1979 box. Is this possible, has anyone on this forum attempted this?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Rod

I went and took a better look. It appears that the bed sides are the same with the exception of the fender bolt hole locations. I am correct in my assessment?

Thanks,

Rod

If the bolt holes are the only diffrence I would think that you could drill new ones. If the old one interfeer you could weld them up. No one is going to see that part any way.

I really never thought of changing the fenders.
