Door speaker size?
I am looking to get my son some new speakers for his 96' regular cab and was wondering what size fits? I had the door panel off the other day but forgot to measure them. I am not afraid to do a little modifying either if I can get a little bigger spearker in there but am just really looking for the stock sizes? Also, what size can be shoe horned into the stock locations behind the seat? Thanks

Yep.... 6 1/2" in doors.... 6x8 in rear will bolt right in. You can get some really good sounding 6x8's now days. or can go with 6 1/2" in both locations. Either way you can get a decent sound. I have 6x8 in the rear (Alpine) for fill mostly and Infinity Component setup up front but had to mount the crossover inside door and then tweeter up top of panel.

The only bad thing with aftermarket speakers is the bass is never as good as stock, it always sounds better but never the bass, I got to find a box that will fit behind the seat so I can have a sub or 2. I had the subs from my mustang in on the front seat to see, JL 1000x1 and 2 12" Audiobahn subs. You could see the roof moving when bumping. But down side was, There was only room for me on the bench seat.

I just put in polk audio 6 1/2" in the front and polk 5X7" in the back and they went right in no problems. I did do some research and the bass is never as good like you said. Thats why im am going to but in a single 10" sub with an amp.
If you are looking for a sub box for a single cab. search "truck sub boxes" or somthing to that nature on google. They make them for certin aplications.
BTW, if ever buying speakers....buy from crutchfield.com, they really are the best, great help and wicked fast shipping!

I have a box that I put in and replaced my center console between the two buckets seats with that houses a single 12" sub. Excellent response and pressure. I'm about to redo the inside of my truck and when that happens will be making a new cabinet to house 2 12" subs with some extra pockets and cup holders, pistol sleeve, etc.... When I finish that up I am going to give my old box away. Just thought I'd toss that out if anyone reading this would like it and happens to live close by. I think it'd be too costly to ship it. That MDF is HEAVY!

I was able to squeeze a set of 4 way Sony Explod 6X9s in the back of my 96, I had to trim the speaker hole slightly, and drill 4 new mounting holes. I bent the bottom of the factory speaker covers slightly and they popped back into place. It looks completely stock from the inside the truck.
I did have to sandwich a piece of high density foam between the magnet on the back of the speaker and the inside of the pillar on the truck, otherwise the speakers would rattle around.
I have them hooked up to a Kenwood head unit and 2 channel 500 watt Kenwood amp, overall they sound quite well. My buddy had a burnt cd with some really weird techno rave music, we played that in my truck and those speakers beat pretty good, nothing like the subs in his car, but still pretty good for just plain old speakers.
