Question 4 barrel carb pictures needed

I want anyones 4 barrel carb pictures....

I am new to carbs just traded a 87 5.0 for a 79 f250 460

from some pics Ive seen there is some kind of diaphram device close to throttle linkage...my truck doesnt have this...

I need to adjust Idles and fuel its a factory rebuilt ford holley

the truck doesnot have the air pump hooked up any more but its there...
I have decel popping to get rid of...

the truck has one chamber flows right now and thas to loud for me so that will change....

Is it better since I dont need emissions to start capping off some vacuum lines and adjust from there...still have factory air cleaner with most hoses still attached to it...like breather cap and header....

I was thinking one day maybe the 2166 edelbrock performer intake and a 725 road demon carb with some headers.....

The diaphram device close to throttle linkage that you're talking about and is also shown in Mil1ion's photo is the vacuum secondaries. If your carb does not have this it has mechanical secondaries. Find the Holley number on your carb and go to the Holley website and they will have a lot of information on your carb. I believe it will be in their "Technical Library" section.

It is called a "throttle solenoid" and works like the Old Dashpot of yesteryear

Sounds like a idle dashpot. Used in 2 ways depending on which one. Some have a solenoid to raise the engine rpm when the AC is on. And also keeps the throttle from slamming closed. Also it can be used to set the idle rpm. So when you turn off the key it release the throttle and close the butterflies on the carb, reducing the air fuel to prevent dieseling.

Most after market do not have this dashpot. But if your does I would still use it.

As far as adjusting the carb. Holly has as good guide. Done best with a vacuum gage.

Basic starting points is 1 1/2 turns out on the air/fuel adjuster. Then with the use of a vacuum gage adjust to max vac, by adjusting 1 side at a time. Turn in till the vacuum drops then back out for max, then the other side. Then lower the idle rpm and do it again. continue till your idle rpm is around 500 rpm. The adj back up to desired rpm. Some prefer to lean out (clockwise) any where from 1/8 to 1/4 turn, I prefer not to.

This procedure is done at normal operating temp with the choke OFF.

thanks blue68 and dennis....

Ive still got alot of playing and learning to do on this vehicle...it just sucks that less people know these trucks these days....

I have two canisters for the emissions that are disconnected and the egr is disconnected and two tubes (front and back) of carb is open....and the air pump not running and that idle dashpot missing.....

Would it be easier to just change to a non egr intake and get rid of all that.....
can I put the stock carb on the edelbrock i think 2166....

Thanks for the pics Dennis....

Im missing a few more parts with that picture.....
And since the air pump might be bad anyway.....I might just gut the whole emissions....

For my 460 what should I capp off and what should I keep attached somewhere...since I cant pm yet.....

On the color picture above I can tell the two lines around the choke is not installed and not installed correctly on mine so thats the first fix for me.....(they dont go down to the intake from carb...

Ive got front and back of carb is big vent tubes sticking out what to do with those...

If you can send me your email address I can take pics of the parts Im talking about and ask you the questions better... email me at ls3862@yahoo.com
