The infamous hidden PCV valve......

OK.. Am I stupid? Dont answer that. I just bought a 92 150 (I6,Auto) 2 weeks ago. Im happy so far. I started to do some of the maintenance items (Filters, plugs, wires, lubes etc)...
I bought a Fram and Purolator PCV and they dont fit.........
The valves that are listed in the books at the auto parts stores say that the one that I bought will fit????? The valve fits in the top of the valve cover but the other end that connect to the hose that leads to the oil breather is too small. I guess I can use a hose clamp. But I really want to get the correct valve. The valve int the truck now is all plastic (black) and and abount and 1 1/2 inch high. The valves in the store looks like the usuall PCV (Silver base, plastic hose connections)....

Anybody????? Thanks

If the connection your looking at is at the FRONT of the valve cover your looking at the crankcase breather connection. The other end of the hose connects to the airbox (there is a small filter there....change it too.

All the way at the back of the valve cover BEHIND the INTAKE is where the PCV valve is. The PCV Valve you got was more than likely correct. Just follow the larger vacuum hoses back from the intake manifold distribution "T". One will go to the Power Brake Booster and the other will go to the PCV Valve.

The PCV valve will probably have 2 sideways connections and a plug for one. Plug off the top one and connect your hose to the lower one.

Thanks for the help. I did not even think to look at the other end of the valve cover.

Thanks
Does crankcase breather need to be replaced also. Is that something that can be soaked in gas? I appreciate the info.

Chris,

DON'T USE GAS!!!!!! Mongo strike match.....GO BOOM!!!!!!

The black fitting on the valve cover (fancy looking 90 deg. elbow) can be flushed out with carb cleaner. Blow thru to verify flow.

The breather filter is at the other end of the tube in the airbox . Replace the filter.
