OK, well after getting the little valve body problem fixed we find out that because of that, it burned up the forward clutches.......had to drive back to the shop in reverse. Put the old clutches back in (they were still in pretty good shape) and something still isn't right with third gear so we pulled the vavle body off again and checked everyhing. It was OK, so we checked the servo, and it was OK. Took it for a drive, same deal. Get back in the shop and go to check the governor. As we are pulling the tailshaft assembly out we see that there are two lines going to the governor that aren't hooked up. We hooked them up and put everything back together and........viola!! 3 gears, reverse, and everything I've ever wanted. Anyway, I decided the other day that no one does any mechanical work on that pickup unless their name is........me. It took over 5 weeks to get this rebuilt and working right, and cost over $900. In the end I was the one (along with the instructor) that fixed it......(I knew nothing about automatic tranny's, and I'm not even in the auto program!!)
I still don't know just how well it scoots down the road, I had some traction problems right off the bat......however, once it hooked up
It actually hooked up pretty quick.....especially for not warming the tires first or anything. This shift kit gave me quick, firm shifts.....it won't bark the tires though. I guess that doesn't bother me all that much. I agree about doing it yourself........
Geez, we might just have to have a chapter meet so jake can race Rob!! Hmmm, who should I put my money on... cubic inches or youth.. have to think about that one!!
hhmmm...that's a good one there, so ya jake, good ole wade gave me the 'low down' on blue in cbus last night lol, u'd think he fixed it from wat i heard from him...but i guess that's the value of a CCC education right?
Ha.....Wade did about as good of a job fixing it as Jay did putting the valve body together........yep, CCC auto program.......not as bad as parts but close.
Pat ain't kiddin about me blowin her up......that's something I could see myself doing.......there goes alot of $$$$
I wouldn't want to see Jake cry, especially from his truck blowing up! Now if he cried because Rob's 460 stomps him, well, that's a different story!!LOL!
I'd have to push her! I think I broke the input shaft to the tranny. It's go the 300 six in it. I have a nice little 390 sitting in the garage for it. It's the block with the beefy main journals, and just happens to have a set of GT heads sitting on it! Now if I ever get that in there, I'll go after both of you two! Now, I won't race you guys with the '06, but I'd more than happy to hook chain between our rear bumpers, and see who pulls who!!!
So what else is special about your 390? Was it a car 390 or a truck 390? When you get ready to put it in let me know.....I have Holley 750 vac sec that I will let go for the right price. I could also give you a word of advice about overcamming
That would be a site to see... A grampa-edition 78 racin' Jake's old blue. I hate to admit it, but I'd probably put my money on youth! Maybe I can get Mark (aka FordTrucksKickGM) to be my pit crew... I may have a chance then!
