Got busted for wheelin!

So my friend and I went out to meet up with some guys at some local spot in Jamul, CA. And it was fun, lots of different trucks, but mostly fords (dezertranger forum i think) and it was awesome while it lasted. I took a few pictures, i wish i took more but i was too busy watching in awe. I am not really into truck jumping/ prerunning but it was fun. Then a helicopter came in and told us to leave, we all left and then a sheriff met us at the enterance and informed us it was federal land and we cant be here and to "stay the **** out of Jamul". I love California, but there are soo many silly laws here....

so you want me to come wheelin and do some donuts on your yard?

if its private property and you do not have permission STAY THE HELL OFF! thats exactly what gives wheelin such a bad name... one more incident tree huggers have against us.

now if you had permission and they were truely being see the guidelines - language then you didnt have to do anything

funny how if it was your property (land, truck, house, etc) you would be flaming mad!

STAY OFF unless you get WRITTEN permission!

This was no where near anybodys house, and it was government land. No signs posted besides no dumping. It was my first time there and apparently the locals go there all the time but when they invited a few people to go out wheeling is when we got busted. most people were just talking trucks and bull****ting.

Fishmann is correct again!

Taco, be lucky you were just told to leave and not given a ticket or worse. You may be able to fall back on the fact that you didn't know, you were invited by someone else, but that don't make you right. It also gives you no right to be mad at the owner even if it was the government.

Good rule to follow is this, if it is posted then don't bother asking, if it is not posted, ask first and if you get told no, then walk away with a "sorry to bother you sir", if you get told yes, then don't even kick up dust unless it was discussed before hand with the owner. That applies everywhere not just CA. But if its your land do what you want.

thats fine guys and i TOTALLY understand, trust me. i have been there, done that and quickly learned my lesson. but its not your call! if you dont own it (signs or not) stay off! if not for the fact you could get in a lot of trouble, do it for us fellow wheelers, everyone who comes to this board!

do either of you have POSTED signs around your house? i am going to guess not. however again, if i use the 'your back yard' philospophy would you let me go with a warning if i said "o sorry i didnt see that POSTED sign" or "well my buddy told me it was ok to ride here" ? serisouly doubt it!

it's the golden rule... Do unto others as you wish done to you!

No not trespassing. It is federal land and its basically a canyon, people can hike, but mostly ride little motorcycle and truck trails are all over the place(not legally). I live in san diego, and i do not know of one place around here that has enough private land to wheel on, there is a lot of random desert with no signs posted that might or might not be legal. Like i said before the only signs that were posted were off the main dirt road that said no dumping (even though there was crap everywhere) and some of the signs were shot up! I am not justifying what i did was right, i was just there watching, i rode with a friend.

Join an off road club. Learn the legal way to wheel. Get on the right side of the law and become part of the solution instead of the problem.
I'd also take down the pics of breaking the law.

holy crapballs batman

instead of ripping 02Taco a new one, why not request clarification on where he was wheeling and determine if the sheriff/federal officer was correct.

02Taco - can you post a map or location of where the group was wheeling and someone can try to determine if the sheriff/federal officer was upholding the law?

ok fine.... i will wait for clarification before posting anymore here! funny how he says

"It is federal land and its basically a canyon, people can hike, but mostly ride little motorcycle and truck trails are all over the place(not legally)"

and

"I am not justifying what i did was right, i was just there watching, i rode with a friend."

been there done that.... got something new?

i'm just tired of people riding on private land and tearing up property that they have no business being on and then go gripe and complain that they have no where to wheel.... for example "I live in san diego, and i do not know of one place around here that has enough private land to wheel on"

holy crapolla

Wow dude, a totally helpful and constructive response. Why not offer some informational links to NEW members (02Taco joined in July 2007) to help them understand the current offroad road/travel state of affairs. [If he was trespassing, then he's an idiot, but I've yet to see any information that verifies (text written on a public forum by someone who may or may not be an offorad enthusiast) that the off-roaders were trespassing.]

It doesn't matter if more people are complaining. If I enjoy a sport/hobby that is impacted by other peoples actions, I will attempt to educate/inform. If the only response a NEW member receives is "you're a moron, moron...get a clue ****-breath", is that helping to educate anyone? or gathering much needed support?

Since available off-highway roads/lands are decreasing (and off-roaders increasing), why not try to educate in order to keep the remaining land open. Pirate4x4 is the only off-road forum I frequent that has posted sufficient information concerning the public land issue (and I posted the links to INFORM/EDUCATE the reader who happens to clicky the linky).

Is it more advantageous to continue to inform fellow enthusiasts or to give up and learn underwater basketweaving (because I hear the sierra club is offering lessons)??

Educating fellow members is far more beneficial than listening to the environmental wackos celebrate public land closures.

One more person on our side is one less person for the enviromental nutjobs.

I found the forum that met there and read through it, some of them were A-holes about the whole issue. But as far as wheeling goes, i am somewhat new to the whole 4 wheeling scene. I ususally go to ocotillo, about 2 hour drive to go wheel, but i was always hopeing i could find a little place locally that i could go....i thought this might be one of those places.....but nope. I dont think those places exist....at least not in san diego county. Anyways my intent was to show pictures of the nice rigs, not to get flamed for tearing up the road on somebody private land. I was watching and did NO DRIVING.

http://www.dezertrangers.com/vb/showthread.php?t=56201

There are some cool pictures on the forum as well.

I did learn a lesson.....just because it doesnt say "no offroad activity" doesnt mean its allowed either. no more flaming please....
