Childproof Locks won't unlock

When I park my rear passengers can not get out unless I hit the power unlock button. I have switched the childproof switch to off but the doors are still locked. It's as if the childproof lock button is stuck in the on position. I have check all the posts and can not find anyone with this same problem. Am I the only one?

I think it happened with her 1998 also

The passenger side of my wife's 2000 usually has this problem. Although the little switch in the door does not appear to be loose in any way, it often mysteriously moves itself to the child lock position. Older back seat passengers have learned to put down the window and reach for the outside latch to extract themselves quickly.

My 2K Expy has the same issue but with the drivers side rear door. It will go into the child-lock state if the inside door handle is pulled up before the door lock is unlocked either manual or electrically. My older kids have learned to make sure the door is unlocked before the try to handle to get out. Sometimes the child lock will still self-engage though. Any thoughts?

My switches are tight and in the off position. I turned off the auto lock feature just so I don't have to listen to the "can you let us out" remarks.

I disabled both of the child lock switches. It was a dumb idea anyway.

When you say disabled both, I assume you mean by flipping the switch to off, because that's my problem. My switches on each door don't turn off the child lock like they are supposed to. I think they need to be replaced.

The black flip switches on the doors do not control the electric door locks. Those plastic switches just move the door actuator pawl down to bypass the door handle from the inside. The electric problem could be caused by the GEM.

I am having the same issue. Its on my passenger side rear. Really would like to get a quick fix on how to get rid of this issue. Being 23 w/o kids I really am not worried about child locks. Would like to keep the feature just b/c its a factory thing but just want to know how to stop it from switching itself back. Very annoying.

Thanks in advance

My driver's side rear door has been doing the same thing. Passenger-side rear door works fine. Both child-lock switches are 'off', but I have to hit the unlock button for the driver-side rear passenger or they have to pull the lock up themselves to get out. The kids have learned how to get out, so I'm not really going to worry about fixing it at this point.

This is a really common problem and it can be stopped by setting the child lock levers to off and then inserting a piece of foam pipe insulation into the lever channel. That fixes it and does no harm to the mechanisms.

I have also had good luck with mine pulling the door panel and readjusting the connecting rods. Im not sure why, but I kept playing with slight bends to the rods until I found a position that would keep the switch up with out binding too much. One quick note, if you try this you may have problems opening the door if the adjustments are not right. I was stuck inside and outside several times until I got it right. I would make an adjustment and for some reason the latch would flat not work with the door handles; I would have to reach inside the door and physically unlatch it to open the door. Quite a little delemma until I got it into the right postiion. Since then No problems.

How do you disengage key type Child Lock

My 2010 XLT Child lock is engaged and cannot be disengaged. The door can only be opened from outside.
I just changed the lock (Right Rear) because door couldn't be opened from either inside or outside. I tried moving the
key left and right, no luck.
I need it to be opened both ways. Anyone can help me how to fix this problem.
