tranny slipping?

The other day I hooked my 97' F-250 w/ 7.3L to a 14,000lb trailer and was quite pleased with how it pulled as it has 225,00miles on it and is bare stock. I was a litttle conserned with the tranny. it fealt like it was slipping in first gear a little. once it shifted to 2nd it fealt fine. Is my tranny slipping or do I need to upgrades. also when i had it up around 3,000rpm taking off and it shifted to seond it tried to shift right to 3rd. If i keep it under 3,000rpm or so it didnt seem to double shift. What should I do?

Has the trans been serviced recently?
You can take it to a trans shop and see if there are any codes.
Is the trans original?

my trans seems to be slipping as well, i plan on doing an oil change in it, but i think the BTS valve body would help too, let me know what you do and if it works!

FWIW: When I buy a used vehicle I change all the fluids, even if the seller says it's been serviced. My .02 cents. Do you have a temp gage on the tranny? Heat is the indicator for a failing tranny, they generally get hotter with age or the fluids getting used up. The e4od trannys are not known for there strength, they are the weak link in a great power train.
