F250 rear brakes

I have a limited slip 3.73 dana 60 from a 72 F250 camper special that I will have 3.45 gears installed and put it in my 66 F250 camper special and the concern I have is the brakes,the brakes are new in the 66 and the brakes on the 72 rearend need to be gone through. The 72 rear has 12X2 1/2 shoes and I have no idea what the 66 has since I had a friend do them,I have been on autozones website to see what size shoes were available on both and if they had the same part numbers. It had two listing for the 66 shoes depending on what axle it had,a 5000lb or 5200lb axle and said it was on the door jamb. My tag said 7500 so I presume since its a camper special and does not list that axle it has one ton brakes which are 3 inch wide and the drums look it so I need to know if the 66 has the 3 inch wide shoes can everything be put on the 72 axle since everything in the 66 brakes are new and I want to use them to save some money

the 7500 is the GVWR you need to also find GAWR for the front and rear. just curious but why even bother using the 72 axle? i would just keep your housing from the 66 and just swap over the carrier and 2 axles from the 72 much easier and you won't have to worry about the brakes.

Information from Ford 1964/72 Truck Parts Catalog

1966 F250 Rear Brakes: Standard: 12 1/8" x 2" / Optional: 12 x 2 1/2"
1966 F250 Rear Axle Capacity: 5000; 5200

1972 F250 rear brakes: 12" x 2 1/2"
1972 F250: Rear Axle Capacity: 5200

Same backing plates used 1966 F250 with 12 x 2 1/2" brakes and 1972 F250.

All figures are 2WD only.

What rear axle capacity does the 1966 F250 have, 5000 or 5200? If it's 5200, it should have 12 x 2 1/2 rear brakes. Look on VIN plate located on left door face near latch...see where it says AXLE? The code will tell....when translated, the rear axle ratio and capacity. Post it here, I can decode it, or email me off FTE with the info. FTE has an axle decoder also, but the info may not be listed prior to 1973.

I have some info to decode the tag and the axle code is 24 which is a dana 60 4.10 but I can not find anything about being 5000 or 5200. Jeff

24 = 4.10-1 / Spicer (Dana) 60 / 5200 lb Rear Axle capacity

Ref: 1964/72 Ford Truck Parts Catalog ~ 1966/69 Warranty or Rating Plate Code Chart ~ Section: 40.1; Page 13

Thanks for the info and it looks like the 72 axle has the same brakes. Jeff
