New Tires

I got a 2005 F-250 crew cab with the 6.0. We got 50k on it and these continentals are getting pretty bad with wear. The dealership I bought it from is going to pay 400.00 towards a new set of tires which is what 2 continental tires cost. I am looking at a 325/60R18 and is what they told me is the biggest I can get for them to pay the $400. First I have read different things. I’m I looking at any rubbing with that size tire on the stock truck.

Second I am looking to get some tires with so more aggressive tread. They told me first that they could put on Mickey Thompson Baja radial MTZ but I am thinking that tread is going to be a little to much for highway riding. Is there any other tires that yall have put on your trucks that do good on the highway and aren’t loud but still have enough tread for muddy situations. My dad drives the truck so I can not put anything to aggressive on there which if it was me I would put the MTZ's but I think it is going to be to much for him. So I am going to be looking for something more towards an aggressive all terrain tire. I would appreciate it if yall could help me out with some good tires. Sorry for the long one.

Thanks

If you like the Mickey's, make sure you check out the Pro Comp Xtreme A/T. They are made by the same company which happens to be Cooper Tire. The Pro Comps are very quite and are more of a hybrid A/T - M/T.

The only thing I wonder is why they say 325/60R18 is the biggest? 35X12.50R18 will fit the truck with no problem and will also fit the stock rims better than a 325 tire will. 325 tires are supposed to have a min rim width of 9" and the factory 18" rims are 8".

They would only go up to that size in order for them to pay $400. I do not quite understand why but that is there policy. Thanks guys so far. I will look into to the ones yall listed and hopefully this will help out some other people to.

BFG 305/65R18 would also fit the bill nicely and safely.

When it comes to thier $400 policy, I would be asking about the safety policy they have for mounting a tire that is too wide for the stock rim.

I put a set of 285 BFG AT/TA KO's on my 18" rims (06') at 4000 miles to get rid of the Conti's before I got into any snow. They are reasonably quiet on the highway and handle nicely at higher speeds. They worked fine in snow. I can't comment about mud, but I think they would handle a mild amount. They did take about 300 miles to break in, at least it felt that way to me. I really like them, they do alot of things "good", but are not a true mud or snow or offroad tire, more like a crossover tire. I did not notice any mileage drop really and they max out at 80 psi at load rating E. Other tires I liked and would have bought without a second thought were:

Cooper Discoverer AT's
Pro Comp AT's and Extreme AT's

None of these are budget tires, but I don't have a budget truck and won't sacrafice safety for a couple hundred bucks. I think I went BFG because I have a better chance of finding a tire if I shred one, I also have them on my Bronco and they work very well on it for my mostly street driving. I noticed much better traction on boat ramps and backing my trailer up the driveway (no spinning) than with those Conti's.

Here's a stock 06 with the 285 BFG's on it, I like the lettering out with my paint job.

Yes, the comparable size to a 315/70R17 would be 35X12.50R18.

Also Toyo just came out with a new size in thier Open Country A/T line, 285/75R18. The tire is not even listed on the site yet but it should measure about 35X11.50R18.
