Should be the 7700 model (Heavy Duty Payload Package) with the 5.4L, 2WD, Long Bed models with the 4.10 gears. Think they only come in Regular and SuperCab models, but no SuperCrew. Not sure what the MAX Rating is, I've heard anywhere from 10K to 11K, so I'll split it and say 10.5K.

Could be wrong, but just thought I'd throw it out there.

From what i read on the ford website, the f150 supercrew with the 5.4 and 4.10 gears can tow that most at 11,000lbs with the long wheelbase, all the 4x4s tow 9,900lbs and down, thats what ford says atleast.

From what I've heard, you can only get the 4.10 gears stock in the Heavy Duty Paiload Package, which isn't offered in a SuperCrew model. Yeah the 4X4's tow less than their 4X2 counter parts and if you have the 18" or 20" rims, they tow even less.

It's 10,500...............and ONLY ONE configuration can do it.

A REGULAR CAB 2WD LONG BED.......now, the AVERAGE family of 4 with quads/bikes and Toy Hauler is NOT going to buy that truck.

They're going to buy a super cab or crew cab with 4wd and probably 18" wheels......now the MAX rating drops to 8600 pounds.

Go to the bottom of this page and learn:
https://www.ford-trucks.com/specs/20...rd_f150_1.html

So while Ford does have the higher MAX ratings......you are very limited to the actual configuration to achieve those ratings.

My question now is, how do the other makes compare in this fashion? Do their Crew Cab 4X4's tow the 10.5K or are they just as misleading with only one model offerring the MAX?

This one time at band camp there was this guy with this 1998 4X2 V6 that could tow at least 12000 lbs...............

I'm back.....

Other makes often drop a little with crew cab 4x4's but I was somewhat surprised when I visited Toyota's website. Max towing capacity for the CrewMax 4x4 5.7L is 10100 pounds. I would guess that it has to do with the Tundra offering a full towing package with the CrewMax while F-150 SuperCrew does not.

I think the 4.30's may help some.

100% from memory:

GM's drop down to 8500 with 5.3, 4WD, crew cab.

But may jump back up with the 6.0

This is my personal opinion. I think ford makes a very good solid truck but it is a very boring truck to me. I don't use a truck for construction. I pull my boat and snowmobiles and occassionally haul some furniture or garbabe to the landfill. The titan has a lot of neat innovations. For a window sticker price under $35k i can get crew cab 4x4 with a rockford fosgate 6 disk stereo, adjustable pedals, homelink, radio controls in the back seat for the kids to plug in to, tire pressure monitoring, power rear window, the most innovative bed in the industry with backup sensors and a powertrain the comes standard with more power and better spaced gearing in the tranny than any ford f150. Oh and it puts a smile on my face to drive em.

Can it take a beating like a ford? I don't know. I don't use my vehicles that way. I sure hope it can take a beating better than my brothers 01 f150. That thing has been in the shop for all kinds of issues. He just missed two days of work last week cuz of his ford. Some people swear by them, some at them!! I know my brother won't be buying another. Now if only Nissan would get a decent lease program for the titan. Pretty hard to compete with ford and dodge's lease programs.

That is an excellent point. I think it has to do with high volume/fleet sales. But for your average joe like you or me, that Titan is very appealing.

Maybe the titan is not appealing to you but if you are comparing one to your 98 f150 xl 4.2 Your little v6 ford may last a long time but it also doesn't have enough power to hurt itself either. The titan is only in its 3rd year of production but i can tell you first hand there is a ton of improvements on the 06-07 titans compared with the 04-05. Nissan found its weak areas and corrected them real fast. It still may not be as good of a job site construction truck as a f-150 (04 +) but i guarantee it is tougher than the 97-03 f150's. I bet if there was a ford badge on that titan you would feel different about it.
