Water Pump Questions

Hi All,

Thanks for all the help on previous topics.

Well the work on my truck continues, put on new front brakes and new lines throughout the last couple of weeks, now it is time to conquer the coolant leak!

I cannot really pin point where my coolant leak is coming from but it appears to be coming from/around the water pump. So the natural thing to do was to take off the water pump and inspect the gaskets. They appeared to not be the causes, but I did find something that is suspicous (if thats how you spell that!). It appears that there is a hole that coolant may be leaking out of, I do not know if this is supposed to have a bolt in it or what. I will put a link up to pictures of my water pump and in the second picture you can see the hole I am talking about and a stain it left on the water pump body (this indictates to me something is leaking). If anyone knows if this is my problem please tell me, or otherwise suggestions on what to look for next are appreciated.

I guess I should be clear, I cannot pinpoint the leak because the fan shoots the fluid around making it very hard to look for a leak or get your head in there without getting soaked. I just plain could not see it leaking when it was not running. I replaced all main hoses so they should not be the cause.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Jake

sounds like your weep hole and if it is leaking you will need to replace your water pump

Check with the parts store and see if they have a radiator pressure tester you can rent.

Your picture is showing the weep hole, when the seals start leaking inside, this is where the coolant comes out.

Thanks everyone for the help. I replaced my water pump and it would appear that my coolant leak is gone. I am always impressed with the quality of responses on this website. Thanks again for the help.
