The 3 point star and the teeth are specific to 53.

Would this be a hard to find grill? or one that is not very popular.

The grilles are not hard to find(I have 2 of them, one with teeth and one without) The NOS teeth are getting rather expensive though.

So it would fit a 54-56 then. I rather like the teeth and being that I have a 54 I think it would look good if I removed the star and went with the v8 logo. I do not know about chromed but painted properly it might be startling. Ed

I think the 53 (like you have pictured) with or without the teeth is one of the bettr looking grills. It should fit your 54 without a problem.

The 53 thru 56 grills are interchangable, mostly.

Since the 56 headlights sit back further, you need different, indented, panels behind them for clearance.
The 54's lower valance needs notches for the vertical fangs.

The 53 with the teeth was an upgraded version.

As people have already confirmed, you have a '53 Grille. the presence of teeth indicate it was a deluxe cab and the star in the centre indicate it was a "Cost Saver 6", the flathead 8's had an 8 inside the V in the centre to designate it was a "V8"

I have a 54 Panel and the grill on that has two legs going down through the rollpan. So if you use the 53 grill you will have to get a 53 roll pan or fill in the two holes. That is if you are putting it in a 54. I think that a 54 is the only one with that type of grill. You can see what I'm talking about at my web sight, and it would be a good way of introuducing myself I am a new member. Go to www.doc.smugmug.com Click on trucks and I have a album that covers my progress of my panel. I have added Caddy tail lights and am removing the front bumper, I will add those pics soon.

54 Panel (Doc)
How about starting a new intro thread and adding a gallery so everyone can see your beautiful panel. It is really nice!

Painting the grill to match the truck and then installing the V8 chrome emblem is a cool effect. That is what I did to my 54 except that I used a 56 grill. Jag

That V8 emblem is the only chrome on the body.
