I have a 1970 f250 with 8 lug rims and what I believe to be 16.5" wheels. Can you mount 16" tires onto those rims and is it safe?

I don't think you can, the tire would probably explode before the bead seated.

Dan, No it wont work. You can find late model 16s that you can use on your truck or purchase 16" custom wheels.

On my 16" tires it says right on the sidewal DO NOT MOUNT ON 16.5" RIM. I would get a set of cheap white or chrome spoke wheels. you can get them for around $50 each.

I have a set of wheels and tires from a 1998 Ford Expedition, I was hoping to use the tires (16")on my truck. Is it possible to make those wheels work safely? The 1998 wheels are 5 lug, is there an adapter or modification possible to make them work?

dont say it is not possible, I once got talked in to changing a tire at are shop and the air powered changer wouldnt even peal it of, we had to cut it off with a skill saw. turned out that it was a small 14in. snow tire on 15x8 rim. something you would expect from a chevy guy!

Ok....I believe I have got the message...It is not safe and probably not possible. I appreciate the information. I had not really paid that much attention to the tire size and a friend trying to help gave me a set of good used 16" tires and 5 lug wheels. BBB that information you gave was great. Thanks to all.

Is there a stock ford truck 16" wheel that has the same 8 lug pattern as the 1970 f250, that I could find at a salvage yard and if so what model years?

Inner dia. of tire - rim size only fits tires of the same rim size, want to use a different size the you need different rims.
Anyone looking for this 9.5 x 16.5 size?
I just purchased 5 tires for my 77 Camper Special, these are getting harder to find only one I found was Firestone’s that match this size.
Did find this site if you want to match the dia. to a different rim dia.
https://tiresize.com/tiresizes/9.5R16.5.htm

actually my daughters ‘77 F250 4X4 Ranger has some aluminum rims that may be original ford rims 8 lug
check your usual spots, tire dealers, salvage yards, crags list etc.

No, you cannot do that. Read the sidewall of the 16" tires. Says right on em "do not count in 16.5" rims".

I remember a guy who tried this, actually it was TWO people (if you can believe that), the tire exploded and almost took a hand off one of the guys. They even worked at truck repair facility......??

about the only people making 16.5" tires anymore is interco (swamper) at least in smallish sizes. its a shame to see all of the old school 16.5 wheels going away

Well it only took 18 years but we finally cleared that up for you, even if you haven't posted in 17 years.
